The 1985 Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball tournament was the final event of the 1984–85 season in the Ohio Valley Conference. The tournament was held March 1–3, 1985, at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Middle Tennessee State defeated in the championship game, 66–63, to win their third OVC men's basketball tournament. The Blue Raiders received an automatic bid to the 1985 NCAA tournament as the No. 15 seed in the Southeast region. Charles M. Murphy Athletic Center (commonly known as the Murphy Center) is the name of the main athletic department building at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The building opened December 11, 1972, and is named in honor of former athletics director Charles M. "Bubber" Murphy, a standout athlete at the college in the 1930s, who also served as head coach of Middle Tennessee State's football (1947–1968), basketball (1948–1949), and baseball (1951, 1953–1955) programs. The 1984–85 Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders men's basketball team represented Middle Tennessee State University during the 1984–85 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Blue Raiders, led by first-year head coach Bruce Stewart, played their home games at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and were members of the Ohio Valley Conference. They finished the season 17–14, 7–7 in OVC play to finish 5th in the regular season standings. The 1985 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. This was the first year the field was expanded to 64 teams, from 53 in the previous year's tournament.
