The 1985 NCAA Men's National Collegiate Volleyball Championship, NCAA men's volleyball tournament was the 16th annual tournament to determine the national champion of NCAA men's collegiate volleyball. The tournament was played at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California during May 1985. Pepperdine Waves men's volleyball, Pepperdine defeated USC Trojans men's volleyball, USC in the final match, 3–1 (10–15, 15–10, 15–7, 15–3), to win their second national title. The Waves (25–2) were coached by Marv Dunphy. Pepperdines's Bob Ctvrtlik was named the tournament's ''Most Outstanding Player''. Ctvrtlik, along with six other players, comprised the ''All-tournament team''. Pepperdine Waves Men's Volleyball
The Pepperdine Waves are the athletics teams of Pepperdine University, located outside the city of Malibu, California. They compete at the NCAA Division I, Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA. The school is a member of the West Coast Conference for the majority of its programs. Pepperdine University was recently ranked by the NACDA Director's Cup, Sears Cup as having the most successful athletic program for non-American football, football Division I schools (Stanford was ranked the most successful Division I athletic program with football). Pepperdine University sponsors seventeen National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics teams. 1982 NCAA Men's Volleyball Tournament
The 1982 NCAA men's volleyball tournament was the 13th annual tournament to determine the national champion of NCAA men's collegiate volleyball. The tournament was played at Rec Hall in University Park, Pennsylvania during May 1982. UCLA defeated Penn State in the final match, 3–0 (15–4, 15–9, 15–7), to win their ninth national title. The undefeated Bruins (29–0) were coached by Al Scates. UCLA's Karch Kiraly was named the tournament's ''Most Outstanding Player'' for the second consecutive year. Kiraly, along with six other players, comprised the ''All-tournament team''. NCAA Men's Volleyball Tournament
The NCAA men's volleyball tournament, officially titled the NCAA national collegiate men's volleyball championship, is an annual competition that determines the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship in American college men's volleyball. It had been the only NCAA championship in the sport from 1970 until 2012, when the NCAA launched a NCAA Division III men's volleyball tournament, Division III championship. Unlike most NCAA sports, men's volleyball uses a modified version of the National Collegiate championship format, which means NCAA Division I, Division I and NCAA Division II, Division II teams compete against each other in the same tournament. The 1985 NCAA Division II women's volleyball tournament was the fifth annual NCAA Division II women's volleyball tournament, tournament hosted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA to determine the team national champions of NCAA Division II, Division II women's collegiate volleyball among its member programs in the United States. The 1985 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament began with 28 teams and ended on December 22, 1985, when Pacific defeated Stanford 3 games to 1 in the NCAA championship match. Pacific, making their 4th NCAA final four in five years (in addition to their 1980 AIAW title match loss), claimed the school's first NCAA title for women's volleyball. Stanford finished as NCAA runners-up for the second year in a row. Troy Tanner
Troy Richard Tanner (born October 31, 1963) is an American former volleyball player and Olympic gold medalist. He was a member of the United States men's national volleyball team that won the gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Early life Tanner attended Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights, California. College Tanner played college volleyball for Pepperdine University after being recruited by legendary coach Marv Dunphy. He started as a setter and then was switched to outside hitter. Tanner helped the Waves win NCAA Championships in 1985 and 1986, defeating USC on each occasion. Tanner was inducted into the Pepperdine Hall of Fame in 2011.
