1985 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship
The 1985 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship was the fourth annual single-elimination tournament to determine the national championship of Division I NCAA women's college lacrosse. The championship game was played at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during May 1985. The New Hampshire Wildcats won their first championship by defeating the Maryland Terrapins in the final, 6–5. The leading scorer for the tournament was Anysia Fedec, from Maryland, with 8 goals. The ''Most Outstanding Player'' trophy would not be awarded again until 1998. Qualification With the addition of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship this year, only NCAA Division I women's lacrosse programs were eligible for this championship. Franklin Field
Franklin Field is a sports stadium in Philadelphia, United States, at the eastern edge of the University of Pennsylvania's campus. It is the home stadium for the Penn Relays, and the University of Pennsylvania's stadium for football, track and field and lacrosse. It is also used by Penn students for recreation, and for intramural and club sports, including touch football and cricket, and is the site of Penn's graduation exercises, weather permitting. Franklin Field is the oldest stadium still operating for football. It was the first college stadium in the United States with a scoreboard and the second with an upper deck of seats. NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship
The annual NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship tournament has determined the top women's lacrosse team in the NCAA Division I since 1982. The Maryland Terrapins are the most successful team with fourteen titles. The most recent championship was won by North Carolina. History Lacrosse was one of twelve women's sports added to the NCAA championship program for the 1981-82 school year, as the NCAA engaged in battle with the AIAW for sole governance of women's collegiate sports. The AIAW continued to conduct its established championship program in the same twelve (and other) sports; however, after a year of dual women's championships, the AIAW held its last championship in 1982 and ceased operation. Separate championships are held for Division II, founded in 2001, and Division III, founded in 1985. 1985 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship
The 1985 NCAA Division I lacrosse tournament was the 15th annual tournament hosted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the team champion of men's college lacrosse among its Division I programs, held at the end of the 1985 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse season. In a re-match of the previous two years' finals, defending champions Johns Hopkins defeated Syracuse in the championship game, 11–4. Johns Hopkins finished the season with 13-1, with its lone loss coming to #13 North Carolina. This was Don Zimmerman's second straight national title as head coach. The championship game was played at Brown Stadium at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island with 14,455 fans in attendance. Overtime (sports)
Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament. The rules of overtime or extra time vary between sports and even different competitions. Some may employ "sudden death", where the first player or team who scores immediately wins the game. In others, play continues until a specified time has elapsed, and only then is the winner declared.
