1983–84 Los Angeles Kings Season
The 1983–84 Los Angeles Kings season, was the Kings' 17th season in the National Hockey League. It saw the Kings miss the playoffs, finishing fifth in the Smythe Division. It was the last season of the Triple Crown line of Marcel Dionne, Charlie Simmer and Dave Taylor as Simmer would be traded before the next season. All three would be named to the NHL All-Star game. 1983–84 Hartford Whalers Season
The 1983–84 Hartford Whalers season was the Whalers' fifth season in the National Hockey League. Hartford failed to qualify for the post-season for the fourth consecutive season. The Whalers finished the season with a 28–42–10 record, earning 66 points, which was their highest point total since the 1979–80 season. The club finished nine points behind the fourth place Montreal Canadiens for the final playoff position in the Adams Division. Offseason In early May, the Whalers hired Emile Francis as president and general manager of the club. As a player, Francis was a goaltender who played with the Chicago Black Hawks and the New York Rangers from 1946 to 1952, in which he had a record of 32-52-10 and a 3.75 GAA in 95 games. Following his playing career, Francis was the head coach and general manager of the New York Rangers from 1965 to 1976, where he led the team to a 342–209–103 record. The Hartford Whalers were a professional ice hockey team based for most of its 25-year existence in Hartford, Connecticut. The club played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1972 until 1979, and in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1979 to 1997. Originally based in Boston, they were charter members of the WHA, known as the New England Whalers for all seven seasons. The 1983–84 New Jersey Devils season was the 10th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 11, 1974, and second season since the franchise relocated from Colorado prior to the 1982–83 NHL season. The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey. The Devils compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. The club was founded as the Kansas City Scouts in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1974–75 NHL season, 1974. 1983–84 Edmonton Oilers Season
The 1983–84 Edmonton Oilers season was the Oilers' fifth season in the NHL. After an outstanding regular season, the Oilers won their first Stanley Cup. Regular season It was another record breaking season for the club. The Oilers set club records in wins (57) and points (119), as they won the Smythe Division for the 3rd straight season. Edmonton broke the NHL record for goals in a season, set by the Oilers the previous season, by scoring 446 times. The Oilers got off to a strong start, winning 39 of their first 53 games. Wayne Gretzky started strong too, scoring a point or more in the first fifty-one games. After failing to score in the fifty-second, he missed six straight games along with Jari Kurri.
