Helsinki Olympic Stadium
The Helsinki Olympic Stadium ( fi, Helsingin Olympiastadion; sv, Helsingfors Olympiastadion), located in the Töölö district about from the centre of the Finnish capital Helsinki, is the largest stadium in the country, nowadays mainly used for hosting sports events and big concerts. The stadium is best known for being the centre of activities in the 1952 Summer Olympics. During those games, it hosted athletics, equestrian show jumping, and the football finals. The stadium was also the venue for the first Bandy World Championship in 1957, the first and 10th World Athletics Championships, in 1983 and 2005. It hosted the European Athletics Championships in 1971, 1994 and 2012. It is also the home stadium of the Finland national football team. Salvatore Antibo
Salvatore Antibo (born 7 February 1962) is a former long-distance runner from Italy. He won nine medals at the International athletics competitions. but curiously, he never won national championship (not outdoor, not indoor). Biography Antibo was born on 7 February 1962 in Altofonte, within the province of Palermo (Sicily). He revealed as a consistent middle-distance runner in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, when he arrived fourth in the 10,000 m final. His national popularity was however overshadowed by his compatriot Alberto Cova, who won the gold medal. After a bronze medal at the 1986 European Championships, behind Stefano Mei and again Cova, he gained the status of Italian number one, winning the silver medal over 10,000 m at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Ronald ("Ronaldo") Lanzoni Campos (born August 21, 1959) is a retired long-distance runner from Costa Rica. He claimed the silver medal at the 1987 Pan American Games in the Men's Marathon, and twice represented his native country at the Summer Olympics (1984 and 1988). He set his personal best (2:14.33) in the classic distance in 1987. Dmitriy Dmitriyev (athlete)
Dmitry Georgievich Dmitriev (russian: Дмитрий Георгиевич Дмитриев; born 3 March 1956) is a Russian male former long-distance runner who competed for the Soviet Union. He competed in the 5000 metres at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics and placed fourth after pushing the pace near the end. He also competed at the European Athletics Championships in 1982, finishing eleventh. He was a 5000 m silver medallist at the Friendship Games in 1984 and 1983 European Cup. His highest global ranking was third in the 3000 metres in the 1984 season. Born in Leningrad, he became involved in athletics at a young age. He subsequently went on to study sport at the Military Institute of Physical Culture. António Leitão
António Carlos Carvalho Nogueira Leitão OIH (22 July 1960 – 18 March 2012) was a Portuguese athlete who mainly competed in the long distance events. Career Born in Espinho, Leitão competed for Portugal at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, United States, where he won the bronze medal in the men's 5.000 metres event. Following this result, he was viewed as one of the most promising athletes in his specialty; however, several injuries prevented him from participating in any further Olympic Games. He also competed for Portuguese club Benfica. Death Leitão died in Porto from complications due to hemochromatosis. Julian Goater
Julian Norris Goater (born 12 January 1953) is a male retired British long-distance runner. Athletics career Goater grew up in Mill Hill, London NW7, and began his running career while attending The Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, Elstree, where his father Barry (1930-2022) was a Biology master. In 1979 he was a member of the team that took the gold medal at IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He was also in the team that won the silver medal in World Cross Country Championships in 1982. In 1981 he was the National Cross Country champion and finished 4th in IAAF WCCC. He set the second fastest 5000m time for a Briton (behind Brendan Foster) when he ran a time of 13:15.59 in 1981 at Crystal Palace, London. His best time for the 10,000 m is 27:34.58 which was achieved in Oslo in 1982 and is still in the UK top 10 of best ever times. Paul Kipkoech
Paul Kipkoech (January 6, 1963 – March 16, 1995) was a Kenyan long-distance runner who specialized in the 10,000 metres and cross-country running. He became world champion over 10,000 m in 1987. Kipkoech was born in Kapsabet. In 1986 he ran the 3000 metres in 7:39.38 minutes, which was the third best time in the world that season, only behind Saïd Aouita and Sydney Maree. Justin Gloden (born 22 March 1953 in Elvange) is a Luxembourgish athlete competing in the long-distance events. He represented his country in the marathon at the 1988 Summer Olympics finishing 36th out of 118 competitors. He also competed at the 1983 and 1987 World Championships.
