1983 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship
The 1983 NCAA Division I lacrosse tournament was the 13th annual tournament hosted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the team champion of men's college lacrosse among its Division I programs at the end of the 1983 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse season. Syracuse defeated Johns Hopkins in the championship game, 17–16, to claim the Orangemen's first NCAA national title. The final was played at Rutgers Stadium at Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey. Overview In an exciting NCAA lacrosse finals, Syracuse capped off a 14-1 season with its first NCAA championship and fifth overall lacrosse title as they defeated Johns Hopkins, 17–16. Carrier Dome
The JMA Wireless Dome, originally the Carrier Dome (1980–2022) and colloquially called "The Dome," or more recently "The JMA Dome," is a domed sports stadium in Syracuse, New York. Located on the campus of Syracuse University in the University Hill neighborhood, it is home to the Syracuse Orange football, basketball, and lacrosse teams. NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament
The NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament determines the annual top men's college lacrosse team in the NCAA Division I. This tournament has determined the national champion since the inaugural 1971 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship. From 1936 through 1970, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) awarded the Wingate Memorial Trophy annually to the collegiate champion based on regular season records. The 1983 NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championship was the fourth annual tournament to determine the national champions of NCAA Division III men's college lacrosse in the United States. 1983 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament
The 1983 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship was the second annual single-elimination tournament to determine the national championship of NCAA women's college lacrosse. The championship game was played at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during May 1983. The Delaware Blue Hens won their first championship by defeating the Temple Owls in the final, 10–7. The leading scorer for the tournament was Karen Emas, from Delaware, with 14 goals. Emas was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. Qualification Until 1985, there was only one NCAA championship; a Division III title was added in 1985 and a Division II title in 2001. Delverne Dressel
Delverne "Del" Dressel is an American lacrosse player and a National Hall of Fame member, inducted in 2002. Career Dressel played midfielder for the Johns Hopkins University helping the team to NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship titles in 1984 and 1985. Dressel was an exceptional midfielder who excelled at both offense and defense, playing before the game changed to specialized offensive and defensive specialists. He was awarded the Lt. Donald McLaughlin Jr. Award as the nation's top midfielder in both 1984 and 1985. The Virginia Cavaliers men's lacrosse team represents the University of Virginia in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's lacrosse. The Penn Quakers men's lacrosse team represents the University of Pennsylvania in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's lacrosse.
