1982–83 Úrvalsdeild Karla
The 1982–83 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 32nd season of the Úrvalsdeild karla, the top tier men's basketball league on Iceland. The season started on 1 October 1982 and ended on 21 March 1983. Valur won its second title by posting the best record in the league with a win against Keflavík in the last day of the season. Competition format The participating teams first played a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent twice "home" and twice "away" for a total of 20 games. The top team won the national championship whilst the bottom team was relegated to Division I. The Valur men's basketball team, commonly known as Valur, is a basketball team based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Valur multi-sport club. History The club was founded as ''Gosi'' on 25 December 1951 and was one of the founding members of the Icelandic men's top division. On 22 December 1957 the club changed its name to ''Körfuknattleiksfélag Reykjavíkur'' (English: Reykjavík Basketball Club) and played under that name until 1970. On 3 October 1970 the club merged into Valur sports club and became its basketball department. Under the new name, Valur had considerable success in the 1980s, winning the Icelandic championship two times, in 1980 and 1983, and the Icelandic cup three times, 1980, 1981 and 1983. In 1992, Valur reached the Úrvalsdeild finals where it lost to Keflavík 2–3. In 2022, Valur won its third national championship after beating Tindastóll in the Úrvalsdeild finals. The Portland Trail Blazers (colloquially known as the Blazers) are an American professional basketball team based in Portland, Oregon. Njarðvík () is a town in southwestern Iceland, on the peninsula of Reykjanes. As of 2009, its population was 4,400. It had close ties with the Communist Party of Iceland and later its successors, the People's Unity Party – Socialist Party and the People's Alliance (Iceland), People's Alliance Party. During the occupation of Iceland, Allied occupation of Iceland in World War II, the Newspaper editor, editors of the paper, Einar Olgeirsson and Sigfús Sigurhjartarson, and journalist Sigurð Guðmundsson were arrested, accused of spreading propaganda against the British army, and moved to HM Prison Brixton in the United Kingdom for a duration of a few months. It is currently the country's only daily printed newspaper and the newspaper of record.
