1982–83 Arizona Wildcats Men's Basketball Team
The 1982–83 Arizona Wildcats men's basketball team represented the University of Arizona during the 1982–83 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by first-year head coach Ben Lindsey, who was hired to replace Fred Snowden following his resignation at the conclusion of the previous season. The Wildcats played their home games on campus at the McKale Center in Tucson, and were a member of the Pacific-10 Conference. The Wildcats finished with an overall record of 4–24 (1–17 in Pac-10, tenth place), their worst record since going 4–22 in 1958–59. Following the season, Ben Lindsey was fired and replaced by Iowa head coach Lute Olson. Ben Lindsey (basketball)
Ben Lindsey (born c. 1939) is an American collegiate basketball coach. During his sixteen years (1965–1980 and 1982–83) as head coach of Grand Canyon College in Phoenix, Arizona, he accumulated a record and won two NAIA national men's basketball championship, NAIA championships. Playing career High school Lindsey attended Phoenix Union High School for two years where he was a three sport letterman (football, basketball and baseball). He transferred to Phoenix Christian High School for his final two years where he again was a three sport letterman. College In 1957, Lindsey began his college career at Pasadena Nazarene College where he played basketball and baseball and earned Freshman Athlete of the Year honors. Emerson High School was a public high school of the Gary Community School Corporation, located in a historic facility in Gary, Indiana, United States. In 1981, Emerson closed as a high school. For approximately 17 years, the facility housed a performing arts magnet program, which has since relocated and is still in operation. The original Emerson High School facility closed in 2008 due to lack of funds and building dilapidation, including mold.
