1980 CONCACAF Men's Pre-Olympic Tournament
The 1980 CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Tournament was the fifth edition of the CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Tournament, the quadrennial, international football tournament organised by the CONCACAF to determine which national teams from the North, Central America and Caribbean region qualify for the Olympic football tournament. The top two teams, champions, Costa Rica and the United States, qualified for the 1980 Summer Olympics. However, the United States, boycotted the Olympic games and they were replaced by Cuba. Jorge Manuel Ulate Arguedas (born 14 April 1956) is a retired Costa Rican football striker. Club career Nicknamed ''Gugui'', Ulate made his professional debut for hometown club Herediano on 5 June 1977 and also had a significant stay with Alajuelense, becoming the league's top goalscorer twice, in 1984 with 17 goals and in 1985 with 21 goals. Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá is a football stadium in San José, Costa Rica, with a seating capacity of 23,112, making it the second-largest stadium in the country. The stadium is the home of Deportivo Saprissa, and was named in honor of the team's founder Ricardo Saprissa. The stadium's nickname "The Monster's Cave" (La Cueva del Monstruo) is derived from the team's nickname "The Purple Monster". History Saprissa originally played at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica (Costa Rica National Stadium), a rented and shared facility. It was Costa Rica's first national stadium. The CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship was a quadrennial, international, age-restricted football tournament organized by CONCACAF to determine which men's under-23 national teams from the North, Central America and Caribbean region qualify for the Olympic football tournament.
