1979–80 North Dakota Fighting Sioux Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 1979–80 North Dakota Fighting Sioux men's ice hockey team represented the University of North Dakota in college ice hockey. In its 2nd year under head coach John Gasparini the team compiled a 31–8–1 record and reached the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament, NCAA tournament for the eighth time. The Fighting Sioux defeated Northern Michigan Wildcats men's ice hockey, Northern Michigan 5–2 to win the championship game at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team of the University of North Dakota. They are members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I ice hockey. North Dakota is widely regarded as a premier college hockey school and has one of the most storied programs in NCAA history. The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, United States, was the 14th Olympic Championship. Twelve teams competed in the tournament, which was held from February 12 to 24, 1980. The United States men's national ice hockey team represents the United States in men's international ice hockey. The Michigan State Spartans men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents Michigan State University (MSU).
