1978–79 Texas Longhorns Men's Basketball Team
The 1978–79 Texas Longhorns men's basketball team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 1978–79 NCAA Division I men's basketball season as a member of the Southwest Conference. They finished the season 21-8 overall, tied for the SWC regular season title with a 13–3 record and reached the NCAA tournament. They were coached by Abe Lemons in his third season as head coach of the Longhorns. They played their home games at the Special Events Center in Austin, Texas. Abe Lemons
A.E. "Abe" Lemons (November 21, 1922 – September 2, 2002) was an American college basketball player and coach. As a head coach at Oklahoma City University, Pan American University and the University of Texas at Austin, he compiled a record of 594–343 in 34 seasons. Early life Lemons was born in Ryan, Oklahoma, and given the initials-only name "A.E." He grew up in the town of Walters, Oklahoma and graduated from Walters High School in the spring of 1941. Lemons earned a basketball scholarship to play for Southwestern Oklahoma Teachers College (now known as Southwestern Oklahoma State University). and their long-time coach Rankin Williams. After the United States entered World War II in December 1941, Lemons joined the Merchant Marine. The Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center is a convention center located in Long Beach, California. Built on the former site of the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium, the venue is composed of the Long Beach Convention Center, Long Beach Arena, and the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. Pasadena High School (PHS) is a public high school in Pasadena, California. It is one of four high schools in the Pasadena Unified School District. History The school was first established as a district school in 1884 and became Pasadena High School in 1891. In 1928, the school merged into Pasadena Junior College and operated as a four-year school, grades 11, 12, 13 and 14. Pasadena realigned its 6-4-4 school system in 1954 with Pasadena High School regaining its separate identity. Johnny Moore (basketball)
John Brian Moore (born March 3, 1958) is an American former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA), primarily with the San Antonio Spurs. He played college basketball for the Texas Longhorns under head coaches Leon Black and Abe Lemons from 1975 to 1979. He spent his entire NBA career playing point guard for the Spurs, save for one game for the New Jersey Nets. A rare illness caused Moore to have his career put on hold in early 1986. College career Moore started all 112 games of his four-year college career at the University of Texas at Austin.
