1974–75 Kansas City Scouts Season
The 1974–75 Kansas City Scouts season was the first season for the franchise. The NHL completed its first 8-year expansion cycle by adding franchises in Washington and Kansas City. Kansas City was awarded an NHL franchise on June 8, 1972. The city had a hockey history but had been a home to minor league hockey teams only. Initially, the franchise chose MO-hawks as their nickname to reflect a Missouri-Kansas union, an attempt to appeal to both Kansas and Missouri residents (the Kansas City metropolitan area spills across both states) and incorporating Missouri's postal abbreviation with the Kansas Jayhawker nickname, but the name was vetoed by the Chicago Black Hawks. Therefore, the franchise selected its 2nd choice, Scouts. This was named after the famous statue overlooking the city. Bob Bourne
Robert Glen Bourne (born June 21, 1954) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played for the New York Islanders and the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL) between 1974 and 1988. He was a four-time Stanley Cup winner and 1984 Canada Cup champion. He was inducted into the New York Islanders Hall of Fame. Baseball career Bourne was a skilled baseball player and signed with Major League Baseball's Houston Astros. He played one season for the Appalachian League Covington Astros in 1972 where he platooned at first base with future Hockey Hall of Famer Clark Gillies. Both left professional baseball after the season to focus on professional hockey. Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as goalie or netminder) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their own team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. Michel Pierre Plasse (June 1, 1948 – December 30, 2006) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He played in the National Hockey League from 1970 to 1982. Ed Pizunski
Ed Pizunski (born October 8, 1954) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Pizunski began his career at junior level with the Aurora Tigers and also played for the Peterborough Petes and the Toronto Nationals. He was selected by Kansas City Scouts in round 13 (#203 overall) of the 1974 NHL amateur draft but never played in the NHL. In the 1975–76 WHA season he played in the major leagues when he suited up with the Denver Spurs for one World Hockey Association regular season game. He also spent parts of that season in the North American Hockey League for the Erie Blades and Broome Dusters and the Central Hockey League for the Tucson Mavericks. Denis Carufel (January 23, 1954 – October 27, 2023) was a Canadian ice hockey defenceman. He was selected by the Kansas City Scouts in the tenth round (162nd overall) of the 1974 NHL amateur draft, and was also drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in the seventh round (98th overall) of the 1974 WHA Amateur Draft.
