1973–74 Idaho State Bengals Men's Basketball Team
The 1973–74 Idaho State Bengals men's basketball team represented Idaho State University during the 1973–74 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bengals were led by third-year head coach Jim Killingsworth and played their home games on campus at the ISU Minidome in Pocatello. They finished the regular season at with a record in the Big Sky Conference, as did the Montana Grizzlies, and the teams split their season series. With two years until the conference tournament was introduced, the Big Sky title was decided with an unscheduled one-game playoff at Missoula on Tuesday night. A coin flip eleven days earlier determined the host. Jim Killingsworth
James Austin Killingsworth (June 19, 1923 – June 10, 2007) was an American college basketball coach. He was best known for his tenures at Idaho State University and Texas Christian University (TCU). Born in Checotah, Oklahoma, Killingsworth played college basketball at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah and began his coaching career in 1948 at the high school level in Oklahoma. After many years of success, he left for the college ranks to coach the freshman team at Tulsa, then took a head coaching job at Cerritos College in southern California in 1964. In seven seasons at Cerritos, Killingsworth compiled a record and led the Falcons to the 1968 California junior college championship. In March 1971, he was hired as head coach at Idaho State in the Big Sky Conference, succeeding Dan Miller. The New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team represents the University of New Mexico, competing in the Mountain West Conference (MWC) in NCAA Division I. The 1977 NCAA Division I basketball tournament involved 32 American schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the National Champion of Men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on Saturday, March 12, 1977, and ended with the championship game on Monday, March 28 in Atlanta. A total of 32 games were played, including a national third-place game. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the Western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, Texas, Utah and Washington (state), Washington. Reed Gym
Reed Gym is a 3,214-seat multi-purpose arena in the western United States, on the campus of Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. Opened in 1951, it is the home court of the ISU Bengals men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams of the Big Sky Conference. The home of the men's and women's tennis teams, Reed also serves as a student recreational center.
