The 1972 Argentine Primera División, Primera División season was the 81st season of top-flight football in Argentina. Club Atlético Banfield, Banfield was penalised with a 4-month suspension and the subsequent points deduction after a proved bribe. The case referred back to the 1971 Argentine Primera División, 1971 Metropolitano when Banfield was about to be relegated along with Club Atlético Banfield, Los Andes. A Banfield executive offered Ferro Carril Oeste players (their rivals in the last fixture of the tournament) a high amount of money to fix the match. Carlos Bianchi
Carlos Bianchi (born 26 April 1949), nicknamed ''El Virrey'' (''The Viceroy''), is an Argentine former football player and manager. A prolific goalscorer, although he had a bright career as a forward in Argentina and France, Bianchi is best known as one of the most successful coaches of all time managing Vélez Sarsfield and Boca Juniors to a great number of titles each. Roque Avallay (born 14 December 1945 in San Rafael, Mendoza) is a former Argentine football striker. He played for a number of clubs in Argentina and represented the Argentina national football team. Avallay started his career with Deportivo Maipú in 1964, it was not long before he was signed by Independiente of the Primera División Argentina. In his first year with the club they won the Copa Libertadores 1965.
