California Golden Seals
The California Golden Seals were a professional ice hockey club that competed in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1967–68 NHL season, 1967 to 1975–76 NHL season, 1976. Based in Oakland, California, they played their home games at the Oakland Arena, Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum Arena. The Seals were one of six teams added to the league as part of the 1967 NHL expansion. Initially named the California Seals, the team was renamed the Oakland Seals during the 1967–68 season and then the Bay Area Seals in 1970 before becoming the California Golden Seals the same year. The Seals were the least successful of the teams added in the 1967 expansion, never earning a winning record and only making the playoffs twice in nine seasons of play. Peter McDuffe
Peter Arnold McDuffe (born February 16, 1948) is a Canadian former ice hockey goaltender who played for the St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers, Kansas City Scouts and Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Indianapolis Racers in the World Hockey Association (WHA) between 1971 and 1978. Early life Born in Milton, Ontario, McDuffe's father, Arnold, was a test pilot and trainer for the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II stationed at Brandon, Manitoba. In 1920, McDuffe's paternal grandfather, Richard, had established the first John Deere farm implement dealership in Ontario. Steve Vickers (ice Hockey)
Stephen James Vickers (born 21 April 1951) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played ten seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the New York Rangers from 1972 to 1982. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 1973. Playing career Steve "The Sarge" Vickers played junior hockey with the Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and was named a First Team league All-Star. He was drafted 10th overall by the New York Rangers in the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft. He spent a season in the minor leagues with the Omaha Knights of the Central Hockey League before the Rangers called him up in 1972. Vickers, centre Walt Tkaczuk and winger Bill Fairbairn formed a line that proved to be one of the 1970s' best two-way forward trios. Kerry Kenneth Ketter (born September 20, 1947) is a Canadian former ice hockey player. He played a single season each with the Atlanta Flames in the National Hockey League, and the Edmonton Oilers in the World Hockey Association. Leon Rochefort
Joseph Fernand Léon Rochefort (born May 4, 1939) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centreman who spent 15 seasons in the National Hockey League playing for seven clubs in a career that lasted from 1959 to 1976. A hard-working journeyman, he won the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens in 1966 and 1971. Playing career Rochefort was born in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec. He came up through the junior system of the New York Rangers, playing for the Guelph Biltmores alongside future Hall of Famers Rod Gilbert and Jean Ratelle. He turned pro in 1959 and made his NHL debut in 1960–61 appearing in a single game for the Rangers. In 1962–63, he appeared in 23 games for the Rangers, recording 5 goals and 9 points. Joe Daley (ice Hockey)
Thomas Joseph Daley (born February 20, 1943) is a Canadian former ice hockey goaltender. He played in the National Hockey League and World Hockey Association for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, and Winnipeg Jets between 1968 and 1979. Career Daley was the Sabres' first choice in the 1970 Intra-League Draft. He was also one of the last NHL goalies to play without a mask, although he did wear a mask for Winnipeg in the WHA. Daley's longest stint in major league hockey was with Winnipeg from 1972–79. He won the Avco World Trophy three with the Jets (1976, 1978, 1979) and was the WHA's second leading goalie during the 1975–76 season. Mike Robitaille
Michael James David Robitaille (born February 12, 1948) is a Canadians, Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman (ice hockey), defenceman and commentator. He played in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks in a career that lasted from 1968 to 1977. Playing career Robitaille played in 382 regular season NHL games, scoring 23 goals and adding 105 assists. He was most well known for his punishing hip checks. He also appeared in 13 playoff games, six with Buffalo and seven for Vancouver, tallying one assist. His career ended pre-maturely in 1977 when he was blind-sided by Dennis Owchar of the Pittsburgh Penguins, which caused nerve damage in his neck. He later won a lawsuit against the Canucks for mistreating his injuries. Post-playing career After retiring, Robitaille joined the Sabres' broadcasting arm in 1985. Don Luce
Donald Harold Luce (born October 2, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre, executive and scout. Luce played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings and Toronto Maple Leafs from 1969 to 1982. After his playing career, Luce moved into a long career in player development for the Sabres and the Philadelphia Flyers. He is currently working as a pro scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Playing career Luce was drafted by the New York Rangers and played three seasons (1965–68) for their farm team; the Kitchener Rangers in Kitchener, Ontario. Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres are a professional ice hockey team based in Buffalo, New York. The Sabres compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Atlantic Division (NHL), Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. Bobby Sheehan (ice Hockey)
Robert Richard Sheehan (born January 11, 1949) is an American former professional ice hockey player, who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) and World Hockey Association (WHA) between 1969 and 1982 as a center. Career As a youth, Sheehan played in the inaugural 1960 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the junior Boston Bruins. A small player by hockey standards, Sheehan made up for his physical deficits by leading the NSJHL minor league with 64 goals his rookie year. He was drafted in the third round, 32nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens and went on to play parts of three seasons in the NHL. He was a reserve on the Canadiens Stanley Cup-champion team in 1971 and then joined the lowly California Golden Seals where he quickly became a regular and one of the top forwards for his new club.
