John Bartholomew Tucker
John Bartholomew Tucker (April 9, 1930 – December 7, 2014) was an American radio and television personality, as well as an author. Career Along with Big Wilson, Tucker was one of the last two "communicators" (hosts) of the long-running NBC Radio program ''Monitor''; he was on the air when the show signed off for the last time on January 26, 1975. On television, he was seen as the host of the short-lived unique lagoon game show ''Treasure Isle,'' filmed at The Colonnades Beach Hotel on Singer Island which aired on ABC from 1967 to 1968. In the early 1970s, Tucker hosted a local morning show on WABC-TV in New York City, called ''A.M. New York'', which served as the genesis for what is now ''Good Morning America'', as well as being an indirect ancestor to what is now ''Live with Kelly and Ryan''. ''The Beverly Hillbillies'' is an American television sitcom that was broadcast on CBS from 1962 to 1971. It had an ensemble cast featuring Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, and Max Baer Jr. as the Clampetts, a poor backwoods family from the Ozark Mountains of Missouri who move to posh Beverly Hills, California after striking oil on their land. ''Candid Camera'' is an American hidden camera and practical joke reality television series. The show was created, developed, and presented by Allen Funt. Various versions of the show have appeared on television from 1948 to 2014. The program got its start on radio as ''The Candid Microphone'' on June 28, 1947. After a series of theatrical film shorts, also titled ''Candid Microphone'', Funt's concept came to television on August 10, 1948, and continued into the 1970s. Aside from occasional specials in the 1980s, the show was off air until 1991, when Funt reluctantly authorized a syndicated revival with Dom DeLuise as host and Vin Di Bona producing; it ran for one year. ''Captain Kangaroo'' is an American children's television series that aired weekday mornings on the American television network CBS for 29 years, from 1955 to 1984, making it the longest-running nationally broadcast children's television program of its day. ''Sunrise Semester'' is an American educational television series that aired on WCBS-TV from September 1957 to October 1982 and was at first syndicated by CBS Television Film Sales. It was produced in conjunction with the College of Arts and Science at New York University (when the program started, the Washington Square and University College of Arts and Science). During June, July and August, the program was known as ''Summer Semester''. It was one of the first examples of distance learning, telecourses, or MOOCs (massive open online courses). Lecturers presented NYU credit courses in studio on a wide range of academic subjects, and these broadcast courses were offered for credit to anyone who paid the course fees. Mark Lindsay (born March 9, 1942) is an American musician, best known as the lead singer of the rock band Paul Revere & the Raiders. Early life Lindsay was born in Eugene, Oregon, and was the second of eight children of George and Esther Ellis Lindsay. The family moved to Idaho when he was young, where he attended Wilder High School. Career Paul Revere & the Raiders Lindsay began performing at age 15 with local bands that played local venues. He was tapped to sing in a band, Freddy Chapman and the Idaho Playboys, after he won a local talent contest. After Chapman left the area, Lindsay saw the other band members and a new member, Paul Revere Dick, playing at a local Independent Order of Odd Fellows, I.O.O.F. Hall. Alan Hamel (born June 30, 1936) is a Canadian entertainer, producer, and television host. Early life Hamel was born in Toronto of Jewish descent. He was in the television arts program at Ryerson Institute of Technology in 1954 but did not graduate. Career Hamel co-hosted the Canadian children's television series ''Razzle Dazzle'' (1961–64). The show originally premiered in primetime on ABC on March 27, 1968, with a daytime edition premiering on April 1, 1968.
