1967–68 New York Rangers Season
The 1967–68 New York Rangers season was the franchise's List of New York Rangers seasons, 42nd season. The season was significant for its move from the Madison Square Garden (1925), third Madison Square Garden to the Madison Square Garden, fourth. The Rangers played their last game in the old Garden on Sunday afternoon, February 11 (the day of the official opening of the fourth Garden) when they tied the Detroit Red Wings 3-3. The next Sunday, February 18, the Rangers played their first game at the new Garden, a 3–0 win against the expansion Philadelphia Flyers. In all the Rangers played fourteen of their forty home games at the new Garden, including three playoff games against the Chicago Black Hawks. East Division (NHL)
The East Division of the National Hockey League existed from 1967–68 NHL season, 1967 until 1973–74 NHL season, 1974 when the league realigned into two conferences of two divisions each. The division was reformed for the 2020–21 NHL season (and branded as the MassMutual East Division for sponsorship reasons) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 1967, the NHL 1967 NHL Expansion, doubled in size, going from six teams to twelve. The Original Six, as the pre-1967 teams became retroactively known, were grouped into the East Division, while the expansion teams were placed into the West Division (NHL), West Division. This was done in order to keep teams of similar competitive strength in the same division, regardless of geographic distance, and to ensure playoff revenue for the new franchises. Oakland Seals
The California Golden Seals were a professional ice hockey club that competed in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1967 to 1976. Based in Oakland, California, they played their home games at the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum Arena. The Seals were one of six teams added to the league as part of the 1967 NHL expansion. Initially named the California Seals, the team was renamed the Oakland Seals during the 1967–68 season and then the Bay Area Seals in 1970 before becoming the California Golden Seals the same year. The Seals were the least successful of the teams added in the 1967 expansion, never earning a winning record and only making the playoffs twice in nine seasons of play. 1967–68 NHL Season
The 1967–68 NHL season was the 51st season of the National Hockey League. The league expanded to 12 teams, putting the new six in the newly created West Division, while the " Original Six" were all placed in the newly created East Division. The regular season schedule was expanded to 74 games per team and featured the first time all twelve teams played games on the same day on October 18, 1967. The Smiths Falls Bears are a Junior A ice hockey team based in Smiths Falls. The Bears compete in the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) as a member of the West Division. The team has been in existence since 1961, making them the oldest CCHL team. The Bears are one of the "Original Five" CCHL teams, along with the Brockville Braves, Nepean Raiders, Pembroke Lumber Kings, and Rockland Nationals.
