1967–68 NCAA College Division Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 1967–68 NCAA College Division men's ice hockey season began in November 1967 and concluded in March of the following year. This was the 4th season of second-tier college ice hockey. Four of the five members of the Worcester Collegiate Hockey League joined ECAC 2 with only Worcester Polytechnic Institute remaining outside. Because the five schools already held a tournament between themselves at season's end, none of the teams qualified for the ECAC 2 Tournament. This arrangement held until 1972 by which time two teams had left the conference and continuing with three members was not viable. The NAIA began holding a national tournament in 1968. With ECAC 2 already holding a tournament for the vast majority of eastern schools, the NAIA received most of their bids from western schools with a few exceptions ( Boston State and Salem State). Worcester Collegiate Hockey League
The Worcester Collegiate Hockey League was an intercollegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's College Division. The league was created in 1966 between 4 schools from around Worcester, Massachusetts as well as Nichols College, a few miles to the south. History In 1966 a few colleges in the Worcester, Massachusetts area began sponsoring ice hockey as a varsity sport. The schools immediately banded together to form the Worcester Collegiate Hockey League and included the already existing programs at Assumption College and Nichols College. After one season four of the members joined ECAC 2 as well but continued to hold their own conference tournament. Codfish Bowl
The Codfish Bowl is an annual NCAA Division III, Division III college ice hockey mid-season tournament. It is the oldest tournament operating at the D-III level and the second oldest extant tournament for any level of play. History In 1965 Boston State head coach Eddie Barry (ice hockey), Eddie Barry, looking for a lower-division answer to the Beanpot (ice hockey), Beanpot, founded the tournament with the help of athletic director Gus Sullivan. The series was used as a showcase for the smaller schools in college hockey and was absorbed by the program at UMass Boston Beacons, Massachusetts–Boston when the two schools merged in 1982. The 1967–68 NCAA University Division men's ice hockey season began in November 1967 and concluded with the 1968 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament's championship game on March 16, 1968, at the Duluth Arena Auditorium in Duluth, Minnesota. This was the 21st season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held and is the 74th year overall where an NCAA school fielded a team. The UConn Huskies men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (NCAA), Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of Connecticut. The Boston University Terriers men’s ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents Boston University. They played their first game in 1918 and have won five national championships, while making 25 appearances in the Frozen Four. BU has won 12 major conference tournament championships as well as 32 titles in the historic Beanpot tournament featuring the four major Boston collegiate hockey teams. Boston Arena Christmas Tournament
The Boston Arena Christmas Tournament was a mid-season college ice hockey tournament with the first iteration played in late December 1953. It was held 17 times over an 18-year span and was discontinued after the 1970 edition. History The Boston Arena, which had served as a home for several college ice hockey programs, began hosting a tournament held between Christmas and new year's starting in 1953. Boston University, which then played its home games at the Arena, served as the host for the tournament. After a few years, Northeastern, who also played its home games at the Boston Arena, joined in on the tournament and served as co-host for the remainder of its existence. ECAC 2 was an intercollegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's College Division. The league was created as a way to fairly divide the upper- and lower-class programs that had been members of ECAC Hockey. In 1984 the conference was split in two, creating ECAC East and ECAC West as completely independent leagues. History Foundation In 1950 college ice hockey received its first official conference, the Tri-State League, and while the conference possessed a minimal number of teams it routinely received one of the two eastern bids to the NCAA tournament. Concurrently, once seven western schools formed their own conference they were able to earn both western bids each year because there were no other colleges in competition for tournament berths. NCAA Division II Men's Ice Hockey Championship
The NCAA Division II Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was an annual tournament to determine the top men's ice hockey team in NCAA Division II from 1978 until 1984 and then again from 1993 until 1999. The Division II Championship was suspended following 1999, due to a lack of sponsoring schools. Most of the schools in Division II hockey became members of newly formed hockey conferences, such as College Hockey America. The Northeast-10 Conference is the last remaining Division II conference that sponsors ice hockey.
