1967 AFL Season
The 1967 AFL season was the eighth regular season of the American Football League. The season ended when the Oakland Raiders (13–1) hosted the Houston Oilers (9–4–1) in the AFL championship game on December 31. The Raiders won 40–7 and then met the NFL's Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl II two weeks later, won by Green Bay, 33–14. This was the final season that all AFL on-field officials wore vertically striped red and white uniforms. The next year all officials would wear uniforms mirroring those of their NFL counterparts. Division races The AFL's nine teams, grouped into two divisions (5 teams in the Eastern Division), faced each other at least once, and each team would play six others twice. 1967 Kansas City Chiefs Season
The 1967 Kansas City Chiefs season was the eighth season for the Kansas City Chiefs as a professional AFL franchise, and fifth in Kansas City. Despite their AFL championship win and an appearance in the inaugural AFL-NFL championship game (Super Bowl I) the previous year, the Chiefs did not advance to the postseason ( AFL championship game). The club’s special teams got a boost with the addition of kicker Jan Stenerud from Montana State and kick returner Noland “Super Gnat” Smith from Tennessee State. The seating capacity at Municipal Stadium was increased from 40,000 to 47,000 due to demand. In June, Jackson County voters approved a $43 million bond issue for construction of a sports complex to be completed by 1972. The Denver Broncos are a professional American football team based in Denver. Balboa Stadium
Balboa Stadium is an outdoor stadium in San Diego, California, adjacent to San Diego High School and Balboa Park. Owned by the City of San Diego, it is leased to San Diego Unified School District. The stadium is used for local athletics and high school events. It has been the home of the San Diego High School Cavers athletic teams since it opened in 1915. The original stadium was built in 1914 as part of the 1915 Panama–California Exposition with a capacity of 15,000. The stadium expanded in the 1960s to a capacity of 34,000. Due to seismic safety concerns, it was demolished in the 1970s and a smaller venue with a 3,000-seat capacity was built, opening in 1978. The Miami Orange Bowl was an outdoor athletic stadium in Miami, Florida, from 1937 until 2008. The stadium was located in the Little Havana neighborhood west of Greater Downtown Miami, downtown Miami. American Football League Playoffs
For its first nine seasons, 1960 through 1968, the American Football League determined its champion via a single playoff game between the winners of its two divisions (although ties in the standings in 1963 (Eastern) and 1968 (Western) necessitated a tiebreaker divisional playoff game the week before). In 1969, the tenth and final year of the independent ten-team AFL, a four-team playoff was held, with the second-place teams in each division traveling to play the winner of the other division in what were called the "Interdivisional" playoffs. These playoffs were not, and are not considered to have been, " wildcard" playoffs since the runners-up in both divisions qualified, rather than the two best non-division winners. The 1967 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball's (MLB) 1967 season. The 64th edition of the World Series, it was a best-of-seven playoff between the American League (AL) champion Boston Red Sox and the National League (NL) champion St. Louis Cardinals.
