1963–64 Kangaroo Tour Of Great Britain And France
The 1963-64 Kangaroo tour was the eleventh Kangaroo tour, during which the Australian national rugby league team traveled to Europe and played thirty-six matches against British and French club and representative teams. It included three Test matches against Great Britain for The Ashes, and three Tests against the French. The tour followed the 1959-60 Kangaroo tour of Great Britain and France and was followed by the 1967-68 Kangaroo tour of Great Britain and France. The squad's leadership The Australian team was captain-coached by Western Suburbs Magpies Arthur Summons, though due to injury to Summons the test captaincy fell to St George Ian Walsh for Ashes series against Great Britain and the first test against France. Jack Lynch (rugby League)
Jack Lynch (1910–1966) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s in the New South Wales Rugby Football League competition. His club career was with Eastern Suburbs and St. George. Lynch attended Sydney's Waverley College, before being graded by the Eastern Suburbs club. He made his First Grade debut for Eastern Suburbs in 1930, the same year as 1930s league star Dave Brown, who had also attended Waverley College. Club career In his debut match, the young winger, scored a hat trick of tries against Balmain. He was a member of the Eastern Suburbs side that was defeated by South Sydney in the 1931 premiership decider. In 1931, Lynch managed to top the competition in terms of both points and tries scored. The South Sydney Rabbitohs are a professional Australian rugby league club based in Redfern, New South Wales, Redfern, a suburb of inner-southern Sydney, New South Wales. Michael Cleary (rugby)
Michael Arthur Cleary AO (born 30 April 1940) is an Australian former rugby union and rugby league and footballer of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, and politician. He represented Australia in both rugby codes as well as in athletics making him one of only four Australians who have represented their country at full international level in three different sports. He represented as a Wallaby in 6 Tests in 1961 and as a Kangaroo in 8 Tests from 1962. Early life Cleary was born in Randwick, New South Wales and was educated at Waverley College. Drop Goal
A drop goal, field goal, or dropped goal is a method of scoring points in rugby union and rugby league and also, rarely, in American football and Canadian football. A drop goal is scored by drop kicking the ball (dropping the ball and then kicking it as it touches the ground) over the crossbar and between the goalposts. After the kick, the ball must not touch the ground before it goes over and through, although it may touch the crossbar or posts. A drop goal in rugby union is worth three points, and in rugby league a drop goal is usually worth one point (see below). If the drop goal attempt is successful, play stops and the non-scoring team (the scoring team in rugby union sevens) restarts play with a kick from halfway. Brian Hambly
Brian Clinton Hambly (31 October 1937 – 30 August 2008) was an Australian rugby league player, a representative forward for the Australia national team between 1959 and 1965. His club career was played with South Sydney and Parramatta. He was considered one of the Australia’s finest rugby league players of the twentieth century. Club career Souths and Wagga A South Sydney junior from the Mascot club, Hambly played in Souths’ Presidents Cup side in 1955. Reg Gasnier
Reginald William "Reg" Gasnier (12 May 1939 – 11 May 2014) was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach. He played for the St. George Dragons from 1959 to 1967 and represented Australia in a then record 36 Tests and three World Cup games. He was the captain of the national side on eight occasions between 1962–1967. Gasnier was included on the National Rugby League's list of 100 greatest players and the honorary Team of the Century. The Cumbria rugby league team (known as Cumberland from 1898 to 1973) is an English representative rugby league team consisting of players who were born in the county of Cumbria and the historic county of Cumberland. Noel Raymond Kelly (22 January 193614 June 2020) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer and coach, who played at club, state and national levels. He was named among the country's finest footballers of the 20th century. Featherstone Rovers
Featherstone Rovers are a professional rugby league club in Featherstone, West Yorkshire, England, who play in the Championship. Featherstone is a former coal mining town with a population of around 16,000 and Rovers are one of the last "small town teams" which were common in rugby league in the early 20th century. Barry Muir
Barry Muir (18 September 1937 – 2 September 2022) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer and coach. An Australian and Queensland representative , he played in twenty-two Tests between 1959 and 1964, as captain on two occasions. Club career Born in Tweed Heads, New South Wales, Muir played his junior rugby league at Coolangatta State School and represented Queensland Schoolboys in 1951. He was graded with the Tweeds Heads Seagulls and made his first grade debut in 1956. He played a season in 1957 with Valleys in Toowoomba before joining Western Suburbs in 1958 in the Brisbane domestic competition. He stayed with the club for eleven seasons.
