1962 Bruneian District Council Election
District council elections were held for the first time in Brunei on 30 August 1962. A total of 55 seats on the four district councils were contested by the Brunei People's Party (55 candidates), the Brunei National Organisation (6), the Brunei United Party (1) and eighteen independents. The BPP won 54 seats (32 uncontested), whilst the sole independent elected later joined the party. Voter turnout was around 89%. The 1959 constitution had created a 33-seat Legislative Council (LegCo), of which 16 were to be indirectly elected by the district councils, nine were to be appointed by the Sultan and eight were ''ex officio''. As all but one of the district council seats were held by BPP members, it was expected that the party would secure all 16 seats. However, the government postponed the opening of the Council and later suspended it after the outbreak of the Brunei Revolt in December. Bukit Sawat
Mukim Bukit Sawat is a mukim in Belait District, Brunei. It had a population of 794 in 2016. Geography The mukim is located in the east of Belait District, bordering Mukim Telisai, Mukim Ukong and Mukim Rambai of Tutong District to the north, north-east and east respectively, Mukim Sukang to the south, Mukim Labi to the west and Mukim Liang to the north-west. Mukim Labi is a mukim in the interior of Belait District, Brunei. It has an area of ; the population was 1,216 in 2016. Geography The mukim is located in the central and south-western part of the district, bordering Mukim Liang to the north, Mukim Bukit Sawat to the north-east, Mukim Sukang to the east, the Malaysian state of Sarawak to the south and west and Mukim Kuala Balai and Mukim Seria to the north-west. Mukim Rambai is a mukim in Tutong District, Brunei. The population was 1,404 in 2016. Etymology It is said that there is an area where traders stop and gather to buy and sell goods in exchange for goods such as salt, copper goods with forest products, agriculture and the like from people in the interior. This settlement is one of the stopping places called empat betamu'' for business before heading to other villages along this river including villages close to tributaries whose mouths flow into the Tutong River. Kampong Tanjong Maya () is a village located in the Tutong District of Brunei, within the mukim of Tanjong Maya, and has the postcode TA1941. Located approximately from Tutong town, the village borders Kampong Bukit Udal, Penapar, and Lubok Pulau.
