1961–62 Cincinnati Royals Season
The 1961/62 season was the Royals 14th season in the NBA and its fifth in Cincinnati. Oscar Robertson had a career season as he averaged a triple double on the season. All 5 starters on the Royals averaged double digits points per games as the team ended a 4-year playoff drought. The Royals had a record of 43–37 and the improving team finished in 2nd place. Despite that, the NBA team had real local competition for fans in The Queen City due to remarkably successful college teams there. The starting five of the team had improved, with Bob Boozer improving to join solid holdovers Oscar Robertson, Jack Twyman, Wayne Embry, Arlen Bockhorn. In the playoffs, the Royals dealt with injuries and would be defeated by the Detroit Pistons in 4 games. Charles Wolf (basketball)
Charles Anthony Wolf (May 7, 1926 – November 26, 2022) was an American professional basketball coach. He coached two National Basketball Association (NBA) teams: the Cincinnati Royals from 1960 through 1963 and the Detroit Pistons from 1963 through 1964. While living in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, Wolf graduated from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati in 1944 and from Xavier University. He coached basketball at Villa Madonna College (now Thomas More University) before becoming an NBA coach. Wolf died on November 26, 2022, at the age of 96. The 1961–62 NBA season, 1961–62 Philadelphia Warriors season was the sixteenth season for the National Basketball Association franchise in Philadelphia, and the last before their relocation to San Francisco, California, for the 1962–63 NBA season, following season. Wilt Chamberlain had the most statistically dominating season in NBA history. Chamberlain led the league with an NBA record 50.4 points per game. In one eight-day stretch in January, Chamberlain participated in three games in which he scored at least 63 points per game. On March 2, 1962, the Warriors played the 1961–62 New York Knicks season, New York Knicks in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Hubert F. Reed (October 4, 1936 – May 28, 2024) was an American professional basketball player born in Harrah, Oklahoma. Robert Louis Boozer (April 26, 1937 – May 19, 2012) was an American professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Boozer won a gold medal in the 1960 Summer Olympics and won an NBA Championship as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks in 1971. Boozer was a member of the 1960 U.S. Olympic team, which was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a unit in 2010.
