1960 O'Byrne Cup
The 1960 O'Byrne Cup was a Gaelic football tournament contested by the county teams of Leinster GAA. It was the seventh staging of the O'Byrne Cup competition. Dublin won the delayed tournament after defeating Louth in the final replay, at Croke Park on 1 October 1961. Format The tournament was contested on a knockout basis. O'Byrne Cup
The O'Byrne Cup is a Gaelic football competition organized by the Leinster GAA and first staged in 1954. History The competition is named in honour of Matt Byrne (b. 14 February 1870), a former Wicklow GAA club and county officer. By virtue of a quirk in translation, the Corn Uí Bhroin became known as the O'Byrne cup even though Matt had never used an 'O' in his surname. Byrne was a native of Baltinglass and taught at the local national school. Deeply involved in GAA activities at all levels throughout his life, he was regarded as a good footballer in his youth and an excellent handballer. He was the first secretary of the Maurice Davins' club in Baltinglass and served as a member of the Wicklow County Board for over 50 years, mostly as registrar. He represented Wicklow on Leinster and Central Councils and served as President of the Irish Handball Council from 1941-44. Byrne died on 21 September 1947. Pearse Park (Longford)
Pearse Park is a Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA stadium in Longford, Ireland. It is the main grounds of Longford GAA, Longford's Gaelic football and hurling teams. In December 2011, the stadium was renamed Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, due to sponsorship with Glennon Brothers, a local timber firm. The ground originally had a capacity of 18,000, however in November 2011, this was cut to 8,000 for health and safety reasons. Following completion of works in recent years, the capacity currently sits at 10,000. History The grounds were formerly named the Gaelic Grounds and prior to playing in this location, Longford played its games at Longford Park (later the Greyhound Stadium). Longford moved from Longford Park to the current location in 1933 but the site didn't officially open as Pearse Park until April 1937. O'Connor Park
O'Connor Park () is a Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA stadium in Tullamore, County Offaly, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is one of the principal grounds of the Offaly GAA Gaelic football and hurling teams. It is known for sponsorship reasons as Glenisk O’Connor Park. The ground was opened in 1934, to replace Ballyduff Park, and currently has a capacity of 18,000. The ground currently consists of a covered stand on one side of the pitch, with terracing on the other three. A stand was built in 1991, but replaced by the current structure in 2006. The stand (currently known as the 'New Stand' pending decision on a new name) was completed in 2006. It seats 7,000 people and also includes a press box and a special section for wheelchair users. Kildare GAA
The Kildare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kildare GAA, is one of 12 county boards governed by the Leinster provincial council of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Kildare. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Kildare county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling and camogie. The county football team won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) on four occasions in less than 25 years at the beginning of the 20th century and had accumulated ten Leinster Senior Football Championships by 1935; however, it then went into decline. Aughrim County Ground is the name of the home of Gaelic Games for County Wicklow (Gaelic football, Hurling, Camogie, Ladies Football) team. The ground has a capacity of about 7,000. The Wicklow county football team ( ) represents Wicklow in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Wicklow GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association.
