1960 NFL Draft
The 1960 NFL draft in which NFL teams take turns selecting amateur college American football players and other first-time eligible players, was held at the Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia on November 30, 1959. Many players, including half of those drafted in the first round, signed with teams in the newly created American Football League, including the first overall pick and Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon. At the time of the draft, the Cardinals were still the Chicago Cardinals; they moved to St. Louis in March 1960. The Dallas Cowboys were enfranchised in January 1960 after the draft. The Warwick
The Warwick is a historic hotel located at 1701 Locust Street in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Originally constructed in 1925 in an English Renaissance style, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places on February 8, 1995. The hotel hosted the 1944 NFL draft, 1960 NFL draft, and 1961 NFL draft. The building has been divided into condominiums and a hotel that operated as the Radisson Blu Warwick Hotel in the past, but is now an independent hotel, the Warwick Rittenhouse Square Philadelphia. George Izo
George William Izo (September 20, 1937 – June 10, 2022) was an American professional football player who was a quarterback for seven seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, and the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1960 to 1966, having earlier played college football at the University of Notre Dame. Early life Izo was born in Barberton, Ohio, on September 20, 1937. He attended Barberton High School, where he starred in basketball and baseball in addition to being an all-state quarterback. College career Izo attended and played college football at the University of Notre Dame. His father, George Izo Sr., also played at Notre Dame under coach Knute Rockne.
