1958–59 Detroit Pistons Season
The 1958–59 NBA season was the Detroit Pistons' 11th season in the NBA and second season in the city of Detroit. The team played at Olympia Stadium in Detroit. The team finished with a 28-44 (.389) record, third in the Western Division, but advanced to the playoffs, dropping the Western Conference semi-final 2–1 to the Minneapolis Lakers. The team was led guard Gene Shue (17.6 ppg, NBA All-Star) and center Walter Dukes (13.0 ppg, 13.3 rpg). The Pistons traded away NBA All-Star George Yardley to the Syracuse Nationals during the season in a trade that netted Ed Conlin. Red Rocha
Ephraim Joseph "Red" Rocha (September 18, 1923 – February 13, 2010) was an American professional basketball player and Coach (basketball), coach. Basketball A 6'9" center from Oregon State University, he earned List of All-Pacific-12 Conference men's basketball teams, All-Pacific Coast Conference honors in 1945, 1946, and 1947. He was also selected as a 1947 All-American. Rocha played in the Basketball Association of America, BAA and National Basketball Association, NBA in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He represented the Baltimore Bullets (1944–54), Baltimore Bullets in the 1951 NBA All-Star Game, the first NBA All-Star Game. Earl Lloyd
Earl Francis Lloyd (April 3, 1928 – February 26, 2015) was an American professional basketball player and coach. He was the first African American player to play a game in the National Basketball Association (NBA). An All–American player at West Virginia State University, Lloyd helped lead West Virginia State to an undefeated season in 1948. As a professional, Lloyd helped lead the Syracuse Nationals to the 1955 NBA Championship. In 1971, Lloyd was hired by the Detroit Pistons as head coach, becoming the first non-playing black head coach of the NBA and fourth overall black head coach in NBA history. Joe Holup
Joseph J. Holup (February 26, 1934 – January 28, 1998) was an American basketball player. He played college basketball for George Washington University and later professionally in the National Basketball Association and the Eastern Professional Basketball League. Dick McGuire
Richard Joseph McGuire (January 26, 1926 – February 3, 2010) was an American professional basketball player and coach. McGuire was one of the premier guards of the 1950s, playing 11 seasons in the NBA (1949–60), eight with the New York Knicks and three with the Detroit Pistons. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. His number 15 jersey was retired by the Knicks in 1992. McGuire led the league in assists during his rookie season with a then-record 386 assists, and was among the league's top ten playmakers for ten of his 11 seasons. Shellie McMillon Jr. (March 11, 1936 – July 11, 1980) was an American professional basketball player. Biography McMillon was selected in the 1958 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons after a collegiate career at Bradley University. Richard L. Farley (April 13, 1932 – October 2, 1969) was an American professional basketball player. A swingman from Winslow, Indiana, Farley played for the 1953 Indiana University national championship team. He also played three seasons (1954–1956; 1958–1959) in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Syracuse Nationals and Detroit Pistons. He averaged 6.5 points per game in his career and won a league title with Syracuse in 1955.
