1957 African Cup Of Nations
The 1957 African Cup of Nations was the 1st edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the Association football, football championship of Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The competition took place between 10 and 16 February 1957. It was hosted by Sudan. Organized by the African football continental association CAF, only three teams took part: Egypt national football team, Egypt, Ethiopia national football team, Ethiopia and Sudan national football team, Sudan. South Africa national soccer team, South Africa, which had originally entered, was disqualified due to its refusal to enter a multi-racial team, so only two games took place. Ad-Diba
Mohamed Diab Al-Attar (; 17 November 1927 – 30 December 2016), known as Ad-Diba (), was a footballer who played for the Al Ittihad Alexandria Club and the Egypt national football team. He later served as an international football referee. In 2007, he was named one of the 200 greatest African footballers. Biography Ad-Diba was born in Alexandria and joined the Al Ittihad Alexandria Club as a centre forward in 1944. In 1948 he helped the team win the Egypt Cup and was the top scorer in the first Egyptian Premier League tournament (alongside El-Sayed El-Dhizui). He remained with the team until 1958, when they were relegated to the Egyptian Second Division, and retired to take up refereeing. Internationally, he was a member of the Egypt national football team and competed at two editions of the Summer Olympic Games in 1948 and 1952. Anglo-Egyptian Sudan ( ') was a condominium (international law), condominium of the United Kingdom and Kingdom of Egypt, Egypt between 1899 and 1956, corresponding mostly to the territory of present-day South Sudan and Sudan. Legally, sovereignty and administration were shared between both Egypt and the United Kingdom, but in practice the structure of the condominium ensured effective British control over Sudan, with Egypt having limited local power and influence. In the meantime, Egypt itself fell under increasing British influence. Following the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, Egypt pushed for an end to the condominium, and the independence of Sudan. A total of 37 teams entered the 1938 FIFA World Cup qualification rounds, competing for a total of 16 spots in the final tournament. For the first time the title holders and the host country were given automatic qualification. The Mandatory Palestine national football team, also known as the ''Eretz Israel'' national football team (), represented the British Mandate of Palestine in international football competitions, and was managed by the Palestine Football Association (). Football was introduced to Palestine by the British military during World War I and further developed by European Jewish immigrants. The 1934 FIFA World Cup was the first World Cup for which teams had to qualify, after the finalists in the inaugural 1930 World Cup had participated by invitation from FIFA.
