1954–55 Real Madrid CF Season
The 1954–55 season was Real Madrid Club de Fútbol's 52nd season in existence and the club's 24th consecutive season in the top flight of Spanish football. Summary The club won the second league championship in a row despite changes on the bench: a young Villalonga who was appointed manager of Real Madrid in the middle of the season replacing Enrique Fernandez Viola. Meanwhile, it was a great campaign for Francisco Gento and the club acquired Argentine Héctor Rial from the Nacional Montevideo, an arrival to boost the offensive line. Argentine forward Alfredo Di Stéfano scored 25 goals playing another superb season. After its fourth ever league win (second in a row), the team proceeded to clinch the Latin Cup in June. Luis Molowny
Luis Molowny Arbelo (12 May 1925 – 12 February 2010) was a Spanish football player and coach. A midfielder, he amassed La Liga totals of 175 matches and 90 goals during 12 seasons, with Real Madrid and Las Palmas. He went on to work as a manager with the two clubs, winning 12 major titles with the former in both capacities combined. Molowny represented Spain at the 1950 World Cup. For a brief period in the late 1960s, he also coached the national team. Club career Molowny was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands. His surname originated from County Clare in Ireland, where it is now most often spelt Maloney. He trialled for CD Tenerife as a youngster, but was not allowed to play in the scouting match. Miguel Muñoz
Miguel Muñoz Mozún (19 January 1922 – 16 July 1990) was a Spanish football player and manager. A midfielder, he spent the majority of his career at Real Madrid before going on to coach the club, where he is widely considered one of the most successful and greatest managers in football history, leading the team to two European Cup victories and nine La Liga titles (winning seven major titles in both major competitions combined as a player). Muñoz later had a six-year coaching spell with the Spain national team, and led them to the final of Euro 1984. Playing career Born in Madrid, Muñoz played for various junior teams in the area, but initially failed to attract the attention of Real Madrid, going on to subsequently represent Logroñés, Racing Santander and Celta. Marcos Alonso Imaz (16 April 1933 – 6 March 2012), nicknamed Marquitos, was a Spanish footballer who played as a defender. He was best known for his participation in Real Madrid's five European Cup conquests, mainly in the 1950s. Club career Marquitos was born in Santander, Cantabria. During his career, he played for his hometown club Racing de Santander, Real Madrid, Hércules CF, Real Murcia, Calvo Sotelo and local amateurs Toluca de Santander. José María Zárraga Martín (15 August 1930 – 3 April 2012) was a Spanish professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Born in Las Arenas, Biscay, Zárraga signed for Real Madrid in 1949, spending the following two seasons with the reserve team. Rafael Lesmes Bobed (9 November 1926 – 8 October 2012) was a Spanish footballer who played as a defender. Club career Lesmes was born in Ceuta. Over 12 La Liga seasons, he played for Real Valladolid (two spells) and Real Madrid, appearing in 263 games in the competition. He began his career with local Atlético Tetuán, and retired in 1962 at the age of 35. With Real Madrid, Lesmes was part of the team that won five consecutive European Cups. Subsequently, he worked with the club as a scout. International career Lesmes was selected for Spain's 1950 FIFA World Cup squad as an uncapped member. Joaquín Navarro (footballer)
Joaquín Navarro Perona (2 August 1921 – 5 November 2002) was a Spanish professional footballer who played as a defender. Club career Born in Gavà, Barcelona, Catalonia, Navarro moved to local and La Liga giants FC Barcelona in 1941, from hometown club CF Gavà. In his only season at the Camp Nou he won the Copa del Generalísimo, but appeared sparingly in the league albeit scoring three goals. Subsequently, Navarro joined neighbouring CE Sabadell FC in Segunda División, promoting in his first year. Juan Adelarpe Alonso (13 December 1927 – 8 September 1994), sometimes called ''Juanito Alonso'', was a Spanish footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Real Madrid and was part of their European Cup victories in 1956, 1957 and 1958.
