80 Metres Hurdles
80 metres hurdles is a distance in hurdling run by women until 1972 in international competitions. Since the 1972 Summer Olympics, the event has been permanently replaced by the 100 metre hurdles. Masters athletics The distance, with different spacing between hurdles, is still in use in Masters athletics in the Men's division over 70 years of age, and the Women's division over 40 years of age. Youth athletics The distance, with different spacing between hurdles, is also in use in the 11- to 12-year-old division, previously called the "Midget" division. Jorun Tangen
Jorun Askersrud, later ''Nygaard'', also married ''Tangen'' (6 May 1929 – 12 October 2012) was a Norwegian cross-country skier and track and field athlete during the 1950s. Biography Jorun Askersrud was born in Lunner, and represented the clubs Lunner IL and IL i BUL. In 1952 she finished 12th in the 10 km cross-country event at the Winter Olympics in Oslo and competed without reaching the final in 100 metres and 80 metres hurdles at the Summer Olympics. Norway had originally opposed cross-country skiing for women at their own 1952 Winter Olympics. Nygaard finished 17 in the pentathlon at both the 1954 European Championships and the 1958 European Championships. Her personal best times in her athletic Olympic events were 12.2 seconds and 11.8 seconds, respectively. Thelma Elizabeth Hopkins (16 March 1936 – 10 January 2025) was a Northern Irish athlete who competed in the high jump and the long jump. She won the high jump silver medal at the 1956 Summer Olympics, 1956 Melbourne Olympics and was 1954 European Championships in Athletics, European champion in 1954. Biography Hopkins was born in Kingston upon Hull but grew up in Belfast as a child; she had one older sister. Hopkins finished third behind Dorothy Tyler in the high jump event at the 1952 WAAA Championships. At both the 1953 WAAA Championships and 1954 WAAA Championships she was defeated by Sheila Lerwill in the high jump competition. In the 1954 Commonwealth Games she won a gold medal for Northern Ireland in high jump. Milena Greppi (8 July 1929 – 13 December 2016) was an Italian hurdler. Biography Milena Greppi was born in Milan into an aristocratic family. Her father was Antonio Greppi (1901–1991), 8th Count of Bussero and Corneliano and her mother was Aurora Mattei.
