1952 NFL Draft
The 1952 NFL draft was held on January 17, 1952, at Hotel Statler in New York. Selections made by New York Yanks were assigned to the new Dallas Texans. This was the sixth year that the first overall pick was a bonus pick determined by lottery, with the previous five winners (Chicago Bears in 1947, Washington Redskins in 1948, Philadelphia Eagles in 1949, Detroit Lions in 1950, and New York Giants in 1951) ineligible from the draw; it was won by the Los Angeles Rams, who selected quarterback Bill Wade. Hotel Pennsylvania
The Hotel Pennsylvania was a hotel at 401 Seventh Avenue (15 Penn Plaza) in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, across from Pennsylvania Station and Madison Square Garden. Opened in 1919, it was once the largest hotel in the world. It remained the city's fourth-largest until it closed permanently on April 1, 2020. After years of unsuccessful preservation battles, it was demolished in 2023. The hotel is to be replaced by 15 Penn Plaza, a 68-story tower. The Pennsylvania Railroad announced the construction of a hotel on Seventh Avenue in 1916, six years after completing the original New York Penn Station. George Preston Marshall
George Preston Marshall (October 11, 1896 – August 9, 1969) was an American professional American football, football executive who founded the National Football League (NFL)'s Washington Commanders. The team began play as the Boston Braves in 1932; he renamed them the Washington Redskins name controversy, Redskins the following year and relocated the team to Washington, D.C. in 1937. Marshall was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame with its inaugural class of 1963. He was a supporter of racial segregation and was the last NFL owner to integrate African Americans onto a roster, only doing so in 1962 amid pressure from the federal government who threatened to block the use of D.C. Stadium. Marshall owned the team and was its president until his death from health issues in 1969. Mo Siegel
Morris Siegel (October 13, 1915 – June 2, 1994) was an American sportswriter who covered sports in Washington, D.C., from the 1940s to 1990s. Early life Siegel was born on October 13, 1915, in Atlanta. He attended Emory University, but left in 1938 after about three years of study. He got his start in the newspaper business as a copy boy and began his career as a writer with ''The Atlanta Constitution''. He later moved to the ''Richmond Times-Dispatch''. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. Career in D.C. In September 1946, Siegel joined ''The Washington Post''. The NFL draft is an annual sports draft in which National Football League (NFL) teams select newly eligible players for their rosters. To be eligible for the NFL draft, a player must be at least three years removed from High school football, high school.
