1947β48 Baylor Bears Basketball Team
The 1947β48 Baylor Bears men's basketball team represented the Baylor University as a member of the Southwest Conference (SWC) during the 1947β48 NCAA men's basketball season. Led by 5th-year head coach Bill Henderson, the team played their home games at Marrs McLean Gymnasium in Waco, Texas. This season marked the first Final Four appearance in program history for the Bears. Baylor would return again in 1950, but then waited another 71 years before winning the national championship in 2021. Bill Henderson (basketball Coach)
R. E. "Bill" Henderson (1901 β July 5, 1979) was an American basketball coach. He was the head basketball coach at Baylor University from 1941 to 1943, and from 1945 to 1961. In his 18 seasons at Baylor, Henderson had a winβloss record of 201β233, and his teams made three NCAA tournament appearances. Prior to becoming a college head coach, Henderson coached the Temple High School boys' basketball team, which reached the 1928 state championship game. Although Henderson's Temple team lost to Austin High School in the title game, it was eventually awarded the championship because an ineligible player had been on Austin's roster. In Henderson's first two seasons in charge of Baylor, the team finished with records of 11β9 and 6β14. After his two-season break, he guided the team to a 25β5 record, Southwest Conference championship, and NCAA tournament berth in 1945β46. The Baylor Bears are the athletic teams that represent Baylor University. Madison Square Garden (MSG III) was an indoor arena in New York City, the third bearing that name. Built in 1925 and closed in 1968, it was located on the west side of Eighth Avenue (Manhattan), Eighth Avenue between 49th Street (Manhattan), 49th and 50th Street (Manhattan), 50th streets in Manhattan, on the site of the city's trolley-car barns.
