1946–47 FC Basel Season
The 1946–47 season was FC Basel, Fussball Club Basel 1893's Fifty-fourth season in their existence. It was their first season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion from the Nationalliga B the season before. They played their home games in the Landhof, in the Quarter Kleinbasel. Jules Düblin was the club's new chairman and he took over this position from Emil Junkerat the club's Annual general meeting, AGM. Düblin had been player for FC Basel in the years 1919–1926 and had been on the club's board of directors. He was doctor, banker and politician, became author and private art collector. Overview After his playing career the Austrian ex-international Anton Schall, who suffered from a rare heart condition, moved to Switzerland and took over Basel as club trainer for the 1946–47 season. Ernst Grauer
Ernst Grauer (2 October 1913 – 6 May 2006) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel in the 1930s and 1940s. He played as defender. He also played two seasons for Concordia Basel and toward the end of his active career he played one season for Grasshopper Club. Grauer ended his active football career playing two seasons for Nordstern Basel in the early 1950s. Football career Grauer played his youth football for FC Basel and joined their first team in 1930. After playing two test games, Grauer played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game at the Landhof on 19 April 1931 as Basel won 3–0 against Concordia Basel. Werner Bopp
Werner Bopp (* 12 February 1924; † 22 October 2006) was a Swiss footballer who played nearly his entire career for FC Basel. He played mainly in the position as defender. Football career Between the years 1944 and 1960 Bopp played a total of 496 games for Basel scoring a total of 20 goals. 321 of these games were in the Nationalliga A, 43 in the Swiss Cup and 132 were friendly games. He scored 13 goal in the domestic league, two in the Swiss Cup and the other five were scored during the test games. In his first season Bopp played in three test games before he played his debut in domestic league game on 18 March 1945 against Lausanne Sports. Hans Rothen
Hans Rothen was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel as goalkeeper. Rothen joined Basel's first team in their 1946–47 season. He played his domestic league debut for the club in the away game on 4 May 1947 as Basel drew 1–1 against FC Bern. Kurt Imhof
Kurt Imhof (* 1914; † unknown) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel. He played in the position of goalkeeper. Between the years 1932 and 1935 and again between 1938 and 1947 Imhof played a total of 128 games for Basel. 85 of these games were in the Swiss Nationalliga, five were in the 1 Liga (second highest tier) and 15 were in the Swiss Cup. Ernst Hufschmid (born 4 February 1913 in Basel – 30 November 2001 in Basel) was a Swiss footballer who played for Basel and Biel-Bienne. He also played for Switzerland in the 1934 FIFA World Cup. He played mainly in the position as midfielder, but in his later career also as defender. Club football Hufschmid played a total of 402 matches for Basel between 1929 and 1950. He scored 83 goals during this time. 268 of these games were in the Nationalliga, 53 in the Swiss Cup and 91 were friendly games. Paul Stöcklin
Paul Stöcklin (* 29 June 1922; † 19 July 2017) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel in the 1940s and early 1950s. He played mainly in the position as striker, but also as midfielder. Stöcklin joined Basel's first team for their 1945–46 season under team manager Max Barras as they played in the Nationalliga B. After playing in two test games and in one Swiss Cup match, Stöcklin played his domestic league debut for the club in the away game on 14 April 1946. He scored his first league goal for his club in the same match as Basel won 2–0 against Luzern. In his very next game, two weeks later, on 28 April Stöcklin scored four goals as Basel beat Fribourg 6–1 in the home match at the Landhof. Stadion Neufeld is a multi-use stadium in Bern, Switzerland. It is the home ground of FC Bern and the junior team of BSC Young Boys.
