1945–46 FC Basel Season
The FC Basel 1945–46 season was the fifty-third season since the club's foundation on 15 November 1893. FC Basel played their home games in the Landhof in the district Wettstein in Kleinbasel. Emil Junker was the club's chairman. It was his second year as president of the club. Overview Max Barras was first team manager for the second season. Basel played a total of 42 games in their 1945–46 season. Of these 26 in the 1945–46 Nationalliga A#League standings Nationalliga B, Nationalliga B, three in the Swiss Cup and 13 were test games. The test games resulted with seven victories, one draw and five defeats. In total, they won 28 games, drew six and lost eight times. Ernst Grauer
Ernst Grauer (2 October 1913 – 6 May 2006) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel in the 1930s and 1940s. He played as defender. He also played two seasons for Concordia Basel and toward the end of his active career he played one season for Grasshopper Club. Grauer ended his active football career playing two seasons for Nordstern Basel in the early 1950s. Football career Grauer played his youth football for FC Basel and joined their first team in 1930. After playing two test games, Grauer played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game at the Landhof on 19 April 1931 as Basel won 3–0 against Concordia Basel. Rudolf Wirz (footballer)
Rudolf Wirz (1918 – 5 November 1988) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel. He played as midfielder. Wirz joined Basel's first team in their 1941–42 season as they played in the 1. Liga under player-manager Eugen Rupf. Wirz played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game at the Landhof on 12 October 1941 as Basel won 4–0 against Chiasso. Basel finished their season as winners of group East and qualified promotion play-offs against group West winners FC Bern. The 1st leg was the away tie, this ended with a goalless draw. Werner Simon Heinz Wenk (26 October 1922 – 25 March 2017) was a Swiss footballer who played in the 1940s and early 1950s as midfielder. Biography Wenk played his youth football by FC Basel and advanced to their first team during their 1939–40 season. He played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game at the Landhof on 10 March 1940. He scored his first goal for his club during that game as Basel won 4–1 against local rivals FC Birsfelden. In the last game of the group stage in that season on 23 June Wenk scored a hat-trick as Basel won 6–1 against Solothurn. Basel were winners of the group stage and progressed to the play-off stage. Hans Vonthron (* unknown; † 1989) was a Swiss footballer who played in the late 1930s and the 1940s. He played as midfielder. Vonthron first played for FC Concordia Basel. He joined Basel's first team during their 1940–41 season as they played in the 1. Liga und player-manager Eugen Rupf. He played his domestic league debut for his new club in the home game at the Landhof on 15 September 1940 as Basel won 3–1 against FC Birsfelden. Karl von Arx, commonly known by his pseudonym Tschüppeli, (* 1921; † 1982) was a Swiss footballer who played in the 1940s. He played as midfielder. Guglielmo Spadini
Guglielmo Spadini (born 25 October 1911, date of death unknown) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel. He played as midfielder. Spadini joined Basel's first team in 1935 from local team Bottecchia. After one test game he played his domestic league debut for his new club in the home game at the Landhof on 7 September 1935. He scored his first goal for them in the same game as Basel won 2–1 against Grasshopper Club. Spadini played eleven seasons for Basel. In his first season (1935–36) for Basel he scored six goals and in Basel's 1936–37 season he was their top goal scorer with 10 goals in 21 appearances. Traugott Oberer (30 November 1924 – 19 April 1974) was a Swiss footballer who played as a forward or, in later years, as midfielder during the 1940s and 1950s. Club football Oberer started his football with FC Basel and advanced to their first team in their 1941–42 season under Manager Eugen Rupf. After one test match, Oberer played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game at the Landhof on 26 August 1941 as Basel won 5–1 against Concordia Basel. Willy Monigatti was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel. He played as midfielder. Monigatti joined Basel's first team during their 1944–45 season under team manager Max Barras. After appearing in two test games, Monigatti played his domestic league debut for the club in the away game on 29 October 1944, as Basel were defeated 0–2 by Servette. Kurt Maurer (born 1926) was a Swiss international footballer. He played in the position as midfielder. Club football Maurer played his youth football by FC Basel and advanced to their first team in 1945 where he played for two seasons. During his first season Basel played in the second tear of Swiss football and won promotion to the Swiss Nationalliga A. Maurer played his debut in the domestic league game in the Landhof on 9 September 1945 in the game against SC Derendingen as Basel won 2–1. He scored his first goal for the team as Basel won 7–2 in the away game against Schaffhausen. Heinz Elsässer (born 11 March 1917) was a Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel in the second half of the 1930s and in the 1940s. He played mainly as midfielder, but also as defender.
