1941 Cork Senior Hurling Championship
The 1941 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 53rd staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening round fixtures took place at the Cork Convention on 26 January 1941. The championship began on 6 April 1941 and ended on 12 October 1941. Glen Rovers entered the championship as the defending champions. The final was played on 12 October 1941 at the Athletic Grounds in Cork, between Glen Rovers and Ballincollig, in what was their first ever meeting in the final. Glen Rovers won the match by 4–07 to 2–02 to claim their eighth championship title overall and an eighth title in succession. Carrigdhoun GAA is one of the eight baronies or Gaelic Athletic Association divisions that make up Cork. The division is made up of eleven Gaelic Athletic Association teams, making it one of the smaller divisions. The division is also known as the South East division. It extends from just south of Cork city down to Ballinspittle in the south of the county. The 11 teams are Ballinhassig, Ballygarvan, Ballymartle from Riverstick, Belgooly, Carrigaline, Crosshaven, Courcey Rovers from Ballinadee and Ballinspittle, Kinsale, Shamrocks from Ringaskiddy/ Monkstown, Tracton from Minane Bridge, and Valley Rovers from Innishannon. The Double (Gaelic Games)
The Double is a term in Gaelic games that refers to a county winning the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship and the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in the same year. Other major trophies won in combination in the same year at minor or under-21 levels are also often referred to as doubles. Christy Ring
Nicholas Christy Michael Ring (30 October 1920 – 2 March 1979) was an Irish hurler whose league and championship career at senior level with the Cork county team spanned twenty-four years from 1939 to 1963. He established many championship records, including career appearances (65), scoring tally (33–208) and number of All-Ireland medals won (8); however, these records were subsequently bested by a number of players. Ring is widely regarded as one of the greatest hurlers in the history of the game, with many former players, commentators and fans rating him as the number one player of all time. Born in Cloyne, County Cork, Ring first played competitive hurling following encouragement from his local national school teachers Michael O'Brien and Jerry Moynihan. The Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Cork PSHC) is an annual club hurling competition organised by the Cork GAA, Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs and amalgamated teams in the County Cork, county of Cork in Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. Glen Rovers
Glen Rovers is a Cork-based Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Blackpool, Cork, Ireland. The club was founded in 1916 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. They have been historically part of the ''Big Three'' of Cork hurling along with city rivals Blackrock and St Finbarr's. History Hurling had been played in the Blackpool area for some time before the Glen Rovers club was established. Areas like the Commons Road and Thomas Davis Street in particular had fielded teams from time to time. In 1910, a hurling club honouring the Fenian leader Brian Dillon was established at Dillon's Cross. Muskerry GAA
Muskerry GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling division located in the middle region of County Cork, Ireland. It is one of eight divisions of Cork GAA County Board. The division includes clubs from areas to the west of Cork city stretching to the county bounds with Kerry. Its name is derived from the ancient Gaelic kingdom of Múscraige which, following the Norman conquest, now encompasses the baronies of Muskerry West and Muskerry East.
