1941 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship
The 1941 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship was the 13th staging of the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament for boys under the age of 18. As a result of the Emergency it was the last championship to be staged until 1945. Louth entered the championship as defending champions. Roscommon won the championship following a 3-6 to 0-7 defeat of Louth in the All-Ireland final, after leading 1-3 to 0-5 at half-time. This was their second All-Ireland title and their first in two championship seasons. The Tom Markham Cup was presented for the first time to the Roscommon captain after the game. Roscommon GAA
The Roscommon County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Roscommon GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Roscommon. The county board is also responsible for the Roscommon county teams. The county football team was the third from the province of Connacht to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), following Galway and Mayo. It competes in the Connacht Senior Football Championship, which it has won 23 times. The team won back-to-back All-Ireland SFC titles in 1943 and 1944. Crest From November 2024, the crest was altered to replace the original black-faced sheep with one of the white-faced wooly-necked found in Roscommmon. Brendan O'Dowda
Brendan O'Dowda (1 October 1925 – 22 February 2002) was an Irish tenor who popularised the songs of Percy French. Early life O'Dowda was born in Dundalk, County Louth and was educated at the De la Salle Brothers' school in the town. His early promise as a singer brought him to the attention of Dr. Vincent O'Brien, who had coached tenor John McCormack. Captain (Gaelic Games)
A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch. Before the start of a match, a coin toss between captains of the opposing teams is used to determine which end of the ground each team will kick to.
