The shot put is a track-and-field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical Ball (sports), ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. Sten Gunnar Bergh (20 March 1909 – 25 January 1986) was a Swedish athlete who specialized in the shot put and discus throw. He competed in these events at the 1936 Summer Olympics and finished in ninth and seventh place, respectively. At the 1938 European Championships Bergh won a bronze medal in the discus and finished fifth in the shot put. 1938 European Athletics Championships
The 2nd European Athletics Championships was a continental athletics competition for European athletes which was held in two places in 1938. The men's event took place in Paris, France between 3–5 September while the women's events were in Vienna, Germany (which had annexed Austria earlier that year) on 17 and 18 September. A total of 32 events were contested at the two competitions, containing 23 events for men and 9 for women. Hans-Otto Woellke (18 February 1911 – 22 March 1943) was a Nazi German shot putter, who won a gold medal at the 1936 Summer Olympics.
