The 1st European Athletics Championships were held in Turin, Italy, at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino, Stadio Benito Mussolini between 7 and 9 September 1934. A contemporaneous report on the event was given in the ''Glasgow Herald''. There were no women's events. Results Medalists and complete results were published. Tullio Gonnelli
Tullio Gonnelli (21 November 1912 – 12 January 2005) was an Italian athlete who competed mainly in the 100 metres. He was born in Pieve di Cento, Bologna, Italy. Biography He competed for Italy in the 1936 Summer Olympics held in Berlin, Germany in the 4 x 100 metre relay where he won the silver medal with his team mates Orazio Mariani, Gianni Caldana and Elio Ragni. He participated in 1934 European Athletics Championships – Men's 200 metres and 1938 European Athletics Championships – Men's 4 × 100 metres relay. Gonnelli was looking forward to competing in the 1940 Summer Olympics in Tokyo but the advent of World War II meant the cancellation of the Games and he served 3 years in the army instead. He died in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, United States. Edgardo Toetti (10 July 1910 – 2 June 1968) was an Italian athlete who competed mainly in the 100 metres. Biography Toetti finished third behind Jack London in the 100 yards event at the British 1929 AAA Championships, second behind Christiaan Berger in the 100 yards event at the 1930 AAA Championships and third behind third behind Ernie Page in the 100 yards event at the 1931 AAA Championships. He competed for an Italy in the 1932 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, California, in the 4 x 100 metre relay where he won the bronze medal with his teammates Giuseppe Castelli, Ruggero Maregatti and Gabriele Salviati.
