1926–27 Blackpool F.C. Season
The 1926–27 season was Blackpool F.C.'s 26th season (23rd consecutive) in the Football League. They competed in the 22-team Division Two, then the second tier of English football, finishing ninth. Billy Tremelling was the club's top scorer, with 31 goals in total (thirty in the league and one in the FA Cup). Season synopsis An opening day defeat at Nottingham Forest was tempered by three straight victories. A run of four consecutive defeats in October set the team back, but the fourteen victories that they put on the board during the remainder of the season helped them obtain a top-half finish. The team sent Frank Buckley on his way to pastures new with a 5–0 home victory over Notts County on the final day. Football League Second Division
The Football League Second Division was the second level division in the English football league system between 1892 and 1992. Following the foundation of the FA Premier League, the Football League divisions were renumbered and the third tier became known as the Football League Second Division, while the second level was branded "First Division," below the Premiership. After the rebranding of the Football League in 2003–04, the second tier became known as the Championship, and the third tier became known as Football League One. Major Frank Buckley
Franklin Charles Buckley (more commonly known as Major Frank Buckley) (9 November 1882 – 21 December 1964) was an English Association football, football player and, later, manager. He was the brother of Chris Buckley (footballer), Chris Buckley, who played for Aston Villa. Early life Buckley was born in Urmston, Lancashire. He attended St Francis Xavier's College, Liverpool, and became an office clerk. Already part of the Manchester Regiment, Buckley signed up for a 12-year enlistment in King's Regiment (Liverpool) and expected to serve in the Second Boer War, Boer War, but was instead sent to Ireland. He bought himself out of the British Army, army in 1902 to become a professional footballer. Billy Tremelling
William Reuben Tremelling (9 May 1905 — 5 November 1961) was an English professional footballer. He played as a forward at the beginning of his career, but was later played as a defender. Family His brothers Dan and Sol were also footballers, as was a fourth brother, Jack. His nephew Arthur (son of Sol) was also a footballer. Career After starting out with Shirebrook, Kirby Colliery, Welbeck Colliery, Mansfield Town, Retford Town and Worksop Town, in 1925 he joined Blackpool, then in the Second Division, with whom he spent five years. Tremelling made his debut for Blackpool on 28 March 1925, in a goalless draw at Manchester United in front of a crowd of 30,000. He made one more league appearance in the 1924–25 season, in the very next game (a home victory over Southampton), but missed the final eight games of the season. Blackpool is a seaside town in Lancashire, England. It is located on the Irish Sea coast of the Fylde peninsula, approximately north of Liverpool and west of Preston, Lancashire, Preston. It is the main settlement in the Borough of Blackpool, borough of the same name. Blackpool was originally a small hamlet; it began to grow in the mid-eighteenth century, when sea bathing for health purposes became fashionable. Blackpool's beach was suitable for this activity, and by 1781 several hotels had been built. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales.
