191st Division (People's Republic Of China)
The 191st Division () was created in February 1949 under ''the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army'', issued by Central Military Commission on November 1, 1948, basing on the 11th Brigade, 4th Column of Huabei Military Region. Its history could be traced back to 3rd Military Sub-district of Jinchaji Military Region, formed in November 1937. The division was a part of 64th Corps. Under the flag of 191st division it took part in the Chinese Civil War. The division was composed of 571st, 572nd and 573rd Infantry Regiments. In December 1950 Artillery Regiment, 191st Division was activated, and redesignated as 571st Artillery Regiment in 1953. In January 1951 the division converted to Soviet-built small arms. After soon the division moved into Korea as a part of People's Volunteer Army in February 1951. In October and November the division took part in the First and Second Battle of Maryang San. Second Battle Of Maryang San
The Second Battle of Maryang-san (4–6 November 1951) was fought during the Korean War, in which British forces, possessing a Maryang-san (Hill 317, a.k.a. Hill 315) and surrounding area (Hill 217), were overwhelmed by Chinese forces. The hill remained in Chinese hands for the remainder of the war. Background By this stage in the Korean War the frontline had been consolidated with fortifications, and there was not much movement. Rather like World War One, strategic objectives would be hills or specific areas of land, rather than sweeping objectives or pushes. 17th Guards Rifle Division
The 17th Guards Rifle Division (Russian: 17-я гвардейская стрелковая дивизия) was an infantry division of the Red Army during World War II. It was created on March 17, 1942, from the first formation of the 119th Rifle Division, in recognition of that division's stalwart defense against German Army Group Center in the Battle of Moscow, and in the subsequent strategic offensive that threw the German forces back from the capital. It became the 123rd Guards Motor Rifle Division in 1957 and converted into the 129th Guards Machine-Gun Artillery Division in 1989. In 2001, it was converted to the 17th Guards Motor Rifle Division and became the 70th Guards Motor Rifle Brigade in 2009.
