1912–13 British Home Championship
The 1912–13 British Home Championship was an international football tournament between the British Home Nations. An evenly matched tournament, all four sides won at least one game and the competition could have gone any way, as Ireland showed the following year when they won their first undisputed championship. In the event, the title went to England courtesy of a single goal victory over Scotland at Stamford Bridge in the final match. Scotland shared second place with Wales after both teams achieved three points and Ireland finished last with two. Wales began the strongest team, beating Ireland 1–0 in Belfast. Ireland responded well to this defeat, winning against eventual champions England 2–1 in a tough game at Windsor Park. Wales and Scotland played out a scoreless draw in their match, leaving Wales on top of the table temporarily and Scotland flagging. Grenville Morris
Arthur Grenville Morris (13 April 1877 – 27 November 1959) was a Welsh footballer who played in the Football League for Nottingham Forest. He is the club's all-time highest scorer with 217 goals. He also played for Aberystwyth Town and Swindon Town, and represented Wales internationally, earning 21 caps between 1896 and 1912. Club career Usually just known as Grenville Morris, he was born in Builth Wells, Wales. He was educated at Ellesmere College, Shropshire from May 1892 to December 1893. Morris began playing football for his local team, Builth Wells F.C. He was still recorded as playing for this team (described as "Builth Football Club" in the press) in the ''Brecon County Times,'' of 29 December 1893, scoring a goal in a 4–1 win over Brecon. Eddie Latheron
Edwin Gladstone Latheron (1887 – 14 October 1917) was an English footballer who played as an inside forward for Blackburn Rovers, helping them to win the Football League title in 1912 and 1914. He also made two appearances for England in 1913 and 1914. He was killed at the Battle of Passchendaele in World War I. Playing career Latheron was born at Carlin How, near Middlesbrough and after playing for South Bank Corinthians he joined Grangetown Athletic, playing in the Northern League. He was discovered by Blackburn Rovers in 1906 playing for Grangetown against Blackburn Crosshill in an FA Amateur Cup tie. Rovers had originally gone to watch another player but it was Latheron who caught their eye and Rovers' manager Robert Middleton paid £25 to bring him to Ewood Park. Harold John Fleming
Harold John Fleming (30 April 1887 – 23 August 1955) was an English footballer who played as an inside forward for Swindon Town and the England national team. He is the only Swindon Town player to have featured for England. Club career Fleming began his career at St. Marks before being invited for a trial at Swindon Town by manager Sam Allen. He joined the club in 1907. Fleming scored a brace in a 4–0 win over Salisbury and was swiftly signed on a full-time basis. Fleming became a Swindon Town legend scoring 203 times in 332 games in 17 years at the club. If not for World War I his career may have been more successful. He worked as a physical education instructor during the conflict. During his career, Fleming had a style of football boot named after him. Alex Bennett (footballer)
Alexander Bennett (20 September 1881 – 9 January 1940) was a Scottish footballer who played for Celtic, Rangers and the Scotland national team. A small right-winger, he was described in contemporary reports as "''...a veritable artful dodger with rare speed and command of the ball.''" Career Club Born in Rutherglen, Bennett began his career at his local club Rutherglen Glencairn in 1901, at which time future Celtic colleague Jimmy McMenemy was also with the outfit. In 1902 Bennett was selected for the Scotland Junior team for matches along with another man who would soon be a teammate at Celtic, Davie Hamilton, scoring four goals in as many Junior internationals overall. Willie Reid (footballer, Born 1884)
William Reid (3 May 1884 – 13 May 1964) was a Scottish international football player and manager, who played as a striker. Playing career Club Born in Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Reid began his senior career in 1903 with Morton, whom he joined from Baillieston Thistle. He scored 11 league goals in two seasons before a move to Third Lanark in April 1906; his only official appearance for the club was in the Scottish Cup final defeat to Hearts later that month. James McKnight (footballer)
Jimmy McKnight (2 May 1892 – 16 March 1920) was an Irish footballer who played as a forward. Club career McKnight was a prolific goalscorer for Glentoran's Second XI, including scoring against the first team to seal victory in the County Antrim Shield semi-final in March 1909 and would go on to score all three goals in the final against Cliftonville . As a more regular first team player in the 1909–10 season, McKnight scored 16 goals in 22 matches, the following season continuing to be part of the Glentoran side who won the League title as well as the City Cup and the County Antrim Shield. After scoring 23 goals in 23 games by March 1912, McKnight moved to Preston North End for a fee of £1,100, scoring his only two goals for the club in successive matches against Liverpool and Sheffield United .
