1906 Paraguayan Primera División Season
The following article presents a summary of the 1906 football (soccer) season in Paraguay. Overview Shortly after the foundation of the governing body of football, the Liga Paraguaya de Fútbol (known today as Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol) on June 18, the first championship was organized with the participation of the five original founding clubs and Club 14 de Mayo. The first match was played on July 8 between Olimpia and Guaraní, resulting in a 1–1 tie. Salvador Melián of Guaraní has the honor of being the first scorer in Paraguayan league history, while Miguel Díaz of Olimpia was the second scorer in the 1-1 tie match. Liga Paraguaya results Guaraní was the first Paraguayan champion. The tournament was played between six teams in a two round all-play-all system, being the team with the most points at the end of the two rounds the champion. The Paraguayan Football Association ( ; APF) (Guarani language, Guarani: ''Paraguái Mangapy Atyguasu''), is the omnibus governing body of football (soccer), football in Paraguay. Club Libertad is a Paraguayan professional football club based in Asunción that currently plays in the Paraguayan Primera División. The club plays its home games at Estadio Tigo La Huerta; which holds 10,100 people. Founded in 1905, Libertad is the third most successful Paraguayan football club, winning 26 national titles, only behind rivals Olimpia and Cerro Porteño. History The club was founded on 30 July 1905 by a group of young men and students. Its first president was Juan Manuel Sosa, who chose the club's name. Club General Díaz (Luque)
General Díaz Football Club is a Paraguayan football club from Luque that currently plays in the Primera División B Metropolitana, the third division of Paraguayan league system. Founded in 1917, it plays at the Estadio General Adrián Jara in Luque. The club's name came from José Eduvigis Díaz, a Paraguayan general. History The club was founded on September 22, 1917. In 2004, the club finished as runner-up of the Tercera División, but only one club was available for promotion at that time. In 2006, they were runner-up again, but this time they were able to be promoted to the Segunda Division (Intermedia). Club Nacional is a Paraguayan professional football club based in the neighbourhood of Obrero in Asunción. Founded in 1904, the club currently plays in the Paraguayan Primera División, and holds its home games at Estadio Arsenio Erico.
