Midfielder
A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. The 1900–01 Scottish Cup was the 28th season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. David Crawford (9 March 1873 – July 1937) was a Scottish footballer, who played for St Mirren, Rangers and the Scotland national team. Robert Neil
Robert Scott Gibson Neill (24 September 1875 – 2 March 1913) was a Scottish footballer who played for Hibernian, Liverpool, Rangers and Scotland. He played at centre half and at wing half. Finlay Speedie
Finlay Ballantyne Speedie (18 August 1880 – 5 February 1953) was a Scottish footballer who played for Rangers, Newcastle United and Scotland in the 1900s. He was a versatile forward who was most at home at inside left. Career Speedie began his career with junior clubs Clydebank and Strathclyde (playing for both in different competitions) then joined Rangers in 1900. Playing under William Wilton he won two League championships, a Scottish Cup, two Glasgow Cups, a Charity Cup and the 1901 Glasgow Exhibition Cup. He left Rangers in 1906 after a match against Celtic was played for his benefit and joined Newcastle United, where he won the English First Division in 1906–07 in his first season. He stayed on Tyneside for another season before joining Oldham for a season and then moved to Bradford Park Avenue for a few months before eventually re-joining old club Dumbarton; he won the old Scottish Division Two title in 1911. Alex Smith (footballer Born 1876)
Alexander Smith (7 November 1875 – 12 November 1954) was a Scottish footballer who played as an outside left for Rangers and the Scotland national team. Career Born in Darvel, Ayrshire, Smith signed for Rangers in April 1894 from local side Darvel F.C., having been introduced at the suggestion of Nicol Smith (a defender who had made the same move a year earlier and came from the same village, but was not a relation). He stayed with the Ibrox club for 21 years until retiring in 1915, was part of Rangers' treble-winning ( Scottish Football League title, Glasgow Cup and Glasgow Merchants Charity Cup) teams of 1896–97, 1899–1900 and 1910–11, and played in 69 of the club's 74 matches during their run of four consecutive championships from 1898 to 1902. Nicol Smith
Nicol Smith (25 December 1873 – 6 January 1905) was a Scottish footballer who played for Rangers. Born in Darvel, Ayrshire, Smith played as a fullback for local sides Vale of Irvine, Royal Albert and Darvel, earning junior international selection, before joining Rangers in 1893. He made only two league appearances in his first season at the club, but by 1893–94, he had established himself in the Rangers team, missing just one of the 18 league fixtures. During that season he was also responsible for bringing Alex Smith (who came from the same village but was not a relation) to the club, and the winger went on to become an important member of the side for the next 20 years. Smith was part of Rangers' first ever Scottish Cup win in 1894, playing in all six games, including the 3–1 final win over Celtic. John Campbell (footballer Born 1877)
John William Campbell (2 October 1877 – 20 January 1919) was a Scottish footballer who played as an outside left for Linthouse, Partick Thistle, Blackburn Rovers, Rangers, West Ham United, Hibernian and the Scotland national team. Life and career Campbell was born in Glasgow and gained the most success in his career with Rangers with whom he won four successive league titles ( 1898–99, 1899–1900, 1900–01 and 1901–02) the first of which Rangers won all 18 of their Scottish league matches. He played alongside Jack Wilkie at four clubs. He also represented Scotland at international level, winning four caps and scoring six goals, including a double in Scotland's biggest ever win – an 11–0 defeat of Ireland in February 1901.
