1896 VFA Season
The 1896 VFA season was the 20th season of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), the highest-level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria (state), Victoria. The season began on 2 May and concluded with a playoff match on 3 October, in which defeated by one goal to claim its first and only VFA premiership. It was the final season in which the VFA was strongest senior competition in Victoria, with eight of its strongest clubs leaving the Association and establishing the rival Australian Football League, Victorian Football League from 1897 VFL season, 1897. Norman Waugh
Norman James "Norm" Waugh (10 May 1874 – 6 August 1934) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL). In the first year of competition, he became one of the club's and leagues first premiership players, during the 1897 VFL season, under the captaincy of George Stuckey. Waugh made his debut against in Round 1 of the season, at Corio Oval. Waugh was also Essendon's first-ever List of Essendon Football Club leading goalkickers, leading goalkicker in a VFL season. His 23 goals was the third-highest in the League, behind Jack Leith of Melbourne (26), and Eddy James of Geelong (27). He was the youngest son of James Swanton Waugh, Dr James S. Dinny McKay
Denis "Dinny" McKay (23 November 1867 – 17 August 1897) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and Victorian Football League (VFL). He played with Richmond in 1892 and 1893, but otherwise was with South Melbourne until their final VFA season in 1896. His sudden death during the 1897 VFL season was considered a severe loss to football. Career VFA years Born in 1867, McKay played originally for the South Ballarat Football Club. Frank Hailwood
Frank Hailwood (3 April 1873 – 21 May 1944) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Jim Gregory (13 February 1876 – 14 May 1949) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Dick Condon
Richard Patrick Condon (19 March 1876 – 27 December 1946) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood and Richmond in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and the Victorian Football League (VFL) across two decades in the 1890s and 1900s. Talent Condon was a highly skilled player, a wiry and tenacious man of greater than average height (5'11"; 180 cm), with great speed, brilliant evasive skills, and an outstanding capacity for reading a game. The Eaglehawk Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Eaglehawk, Victoria and have competed in every BFL season since the league began in 1880, with the exception of 1904. 1878 VFA Season
The 1878 VFA season was the second season of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), the highest-level Australian rules football competition in the colony of Victoria. Like the 1877 season, the existence of the VFA was effectively an administrative change only, and there was no significant change to the manner in which matches were scheduled and played – or the premiership decided – compared to the unaffiliated 1876 season. The premiership was won by the Geelong Football Club, after it defeated in a playoff match on 5 October. It was the club's first VFA premiership, and the first in a sequence of three consecutive premierships won from 1878 to 1880. Geelong was unbeaten during the year.
