100 Greatest (TV Series)
''100 Greatest'' is a long-running television strand on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom that originated in 1999 in ITV Tyne Tees, Tyne Tees Television’s Factual Features department under executive producer Mark Robinson, but the format has more recently has been adopted by other independent production companies. These "list shows" are generally public polls and reflect the votes of visitors to the Channel 4 website, however in some cases the results are determined by experts. The programmes are usually broadcast in the weekend schedule, in three or four hour blocks throughout the year and are repeated on E4 (TV channel), E4 on Saturday and / or Sunday nights. Although the strand has never been officially retired, there have been no new editions since 2015. Graham Norton
Graham William Walker (born 4 April 1963), known professionally as Graham Norton, is an Irish comedian, broadcaster, actor, and writer. He is a five-time BAFTA TV Award winner for the comedy chat show ''The Graham Norton Show'' (2007–present). He has received the British Academy Television Award for Best Entertainment Performance three times for the chat show ''So Graham Norton'' (1998–2002). He has been noted for his innuendo-laden dialogue and flamboyant presentation style. After an early career doing stand-up comedy, Norton gained recognition for his portrayal of Father Noel Furlong in three episodes of the multiple award-winning sitcom ''Father Ted'' (1996–1998). From 2010 to 2020, he presented the Saturday-morning slot on BBC Radio 2, and from 2021 to 2024, he presented his weekend show for Virgin Radio UK. Part of All3Media since 2004, the company specializes in factual entertainment, sports and live programming. The company was originally formed in 1980 by Chrysalis Group to produce facilities, and eight years later in 1988, expanded to produce news and sports programming. The fall of the Berlin Wall (, ) on 9 November in German history, 9 November 1989, during the Peaceful Revolution, marked the beginning of the destruction of the Berlin Wall and the figurative Iron Curtain, as East Berlin transit restrictions were overwhelmed and discarded. Sections of the wall were breached, and planned deconstruction began the following June. Death Of Diana, Princess Of Wales
During the early hours of 31 August 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales, died from injuries sustained earlier that night in a car crash in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, France. Dodi Fayed, Diana's partner, and the driver of the Mercedes-Benz W140, Henri Paul, were found dead inside the car. Dodi's bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, was seriously injured but was the only survivor of the crash. In 1999, a French investigation found that Paul lost control of the vehicle at high speed while intoxicated by alcohol and under the effects of prescription drugs, and concluded that he was solely responsible for the crash. He was the deputy head of security at the Hôtel Ritz Paris at the time of the crash and had earlier goaded paparazzi waiting for Diana and Fayed outside the hotel. The Portillo moment was the declaration of the result for the Enfield Southgate constituency in the 1997 United Kingdom general election, at 3:01 a.m. on 2 May 1997. The Labour Party (UK), Labour Party candidate, Stephen Twigg, defeated the sitting MP, Conservative Party (UK), Conservative cabinet minister Michael Portillo. The result was perceived as a pivotal indication that the Conservatives would be voted out of office after 18 years and that Labour would win the election by a substantial majority. The late-night declaration of the result became the subject of the question "Were you still up for Portillo?", asking whether a person had remained awake until after 3am to see or hear the key general-election results. "Portillo moment" has become a metaphor for an indication of a sudden and significant change in political fortunes, particularly the unseating of a leading MP (especially a cabinet minister) at a general election.
