''01011001 – Live Beneath the Waves'' is a live album by Arjen Lucassen's progressive rock/metal rock opera project Ayreon, released on 17 May 2024. It is a live version of the 2008 concept album ''01011001'', which was filmed during a series of five concerts performed in September 2023 in the 013 venue in Tilburg, Netherlands. Background and recording After performing the previous Ayreon live album ''Electric Castle Live and Other Tales'' in 2019, plans were made for a new set of concerts to be held in 2021. These plans were delayed due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, unsure about post-pandemic demand for the shows, Arjen Lucassen announced three ''01011001 – Live Beneath the Waves'' shows to be performed on 15–17 September 2023. After the initial three shows sold out in minutes, two matinée shows were added, for a total of five shows played in three days. Ayreon
Ayreon is a musical project by Dutch songwriter, singer, musician and record producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon's music is described as progressive rock, progressive metal and power metal sometimes combined with genres such as folk music, folk, electronica, experimental music, experimental and classical music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed Rock opera, "rock operas" (or "metal operas") because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, usually with each one List of Ayreon guest musicians, being represented by a unique vocalist. Evergrey
Evergrey is a Swedish progressive metal band from Gothenburg. History Evergrey was formed in 1993 in Gothenburg by guitarist/vocalist Tom S. Englund as a progressive power metal band, in contrast to the melodic death metal that Gothenburg is known for. Since then, the band's lyrics have always been of the darker sort, and the same can be said of the band's imagery. After finding a stable lineup, ''The Dark Discovery'' was recorded in 1996 and released in 1998, and '' Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy'' was recorded and released in 1999. Marcela Bovio
Marcela Alejandra Bovio García (born October 17, 1979) is a Mexican singer and violinist who is currently a member of the Dutch symphonic metal bands Stream of Passion and MaYaN. In 1995, she joined Hydra, a Mexican metal band, singing and playing violin. In 1999 they released an EP called "''Bosquejo''". After leaving them, Bovio co-founded the Mexican experimental rock band Elfonía in 2001, which was active until 2006. In 2003, she responded to a "casting call" by Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen for relatively unknown singers, who chose her to play the character of Wife in the Ayreon album '' The Human Equation''. Irene Jansen is a Dutch singer. She sang on the Ayreon album '' The Human Equation'', portraying the character Passion. She was also the live backing vocalist of Star One during their tour in 2003, and played the character Morgana in two Gary Hughes concept albums. She was the lead singer of a power metal band called Karma. She made her first recordings in more than a decade for the Alarion album ''Waves of Destruction'', released in 2016. Jansen currently is also a backing singer for the band Lucassen & Soeterboek's Plan Nine. Phideaux Xavier (born Scott Riggs; January 14, 1963) is an American television director, and composer of modern technological music that he describes as 'psychedelic progressive gothic rock', who grew up near New York City but now lives in Los Angeles. Early life Phideaux was born Scott Riggs on January 14, 1963 in Hastings-on-Hudson, one of three children. He started composing music in high school. Magali Luyten, also known as Maggy Luyten (born 16 July 1978) is a Belgian female rock singer. She is also a vocal coach and voice teacher at MYRIAD VOIC. She was raised in Leuven and then moved to the South of Belgium, where she still lives today. Damian Wilson (born 11 October 1969) is an English singer-songwriter and musician. Wilson works in the progressive metal genre and was the lead singer of Headspace (band), Headspace and Threshold (band), Threshold. Daniel Gildenlöw (born 5 June 1973) is a Swedish musician and songwriter. He is best known as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist for the progressive rock band Pain of Salvation. In the band, he is the main songwriter, lead singer, guitarist, producer, and the mastermind behind each album's concept.
