Dolnà Žukov
(Polish language, Polish: , German language, German: ''Nieder Zukau'') is a village in Karviná District, Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic. It was a separate municipality but became administratively a part of ÄŒeský TěšÃn, Czech Teschen in 1960. It has a population of 1,064 (2005). The name of the village is possessive in origin derived from personal name ''Å»uk'' (''wiktionary:żuk#Polish, żuk'' means also ''a beetle''). History The village of Žukov was first mentioned in the document of Pope Gregory IX issued for Benedictine abbey in Tyniec in 1229 as ''Zukow''. Politically it belonged then to the Duchy of Opole and Racibórz, and since 1290 to the Duchy of Teschen. It was also a property of Orlová monastery, Benedictine monastery in Orlová founded around 1268. Probably because of financial problems the Benedictines sold part of the village, which later became known as ''Hornà Žukov''. In 1526 the Duchy of Teschen became a part of the Habsburg monarchy. ÄŒeský TěšÃn
ÄŒeský TěšÃn (; ; ) is a town in Karviná District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 23,000 inhabitants. ÄŒeský TěšÃn lies on the west bank of the Olza (river), Olza river, in the heart of the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. Until the 1920 division of the region between Poland and Czechoslovakia it was just a western suburb of the town of Teschen, which after the division fell to Poland as Cieszyn. The combined population of the Czech and Polish parts of the town is around 57,000 (23,500 in ÄŒeský TěšÃn, 33,500 in Cieszyn). The historic centre in ÄŒeský TěšÃn is well preserved and is protected by law as an Cultural monument (Czech Republic)#Monument zones, urban monument zone.
