Sankt Veit An Der Glan
St. Veit an der Glan () is a town in the Austrian state of Carinthia (state), Carinthia, the administrative centre of the St. Veit an der Glan District. It was the historic Carinthian capital until 1518. The famous chef Wolfgang Puck was born there in 1949. Geography Location The town is situated in the valley of the Glan (Gurk), Glan River within the Noric Alps, Gurktal Alps. Here the Glan reaches the Central Carinthian Zollfeld plain and flows southwards to Maria Saal and the state capital Klagenfurt am Wörthersee. Municipal arrangement St. Veit consists of six Katastralgemeinden: ''Galling'', ''Hörzendorf'', ''Niederdorf'', ''Projern'', ''Sankt Donat'' and ''Tanzenberg''. Podnanos (; formerly ''Šent Vid'' or ''Šentvid'' (''nad Vipavo''), , ) is a village in the upper Vipava Valley in the Municipality of Vipava in the traditional Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. It is now generally regarded as part of the Slovenian Littoral. It lies below Mount Nanos, from which it gets its current name. Name The name of the settlement was changed from ''Šent Vid'' (literally, 'Saint Vitus') to ''Podnanos'' (literally, 'below Nanos') in 1952. The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of an effort by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms. The Šentvid District (; ), or simply Šentvid, is a district () of the City Municipality of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. It is named after the former village of Šentvid. The settlement, and the entire municipality, are included in the Savinja Statistical Region, which is in the Slovenian portion of the historical Duchy of Styria.
