The Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum () is a museum in the Tophane area of European Istanbul, Turkey. It is part of the large Galataport complex. The museum was originally housed in the mansion of the crown prince attached to the Dolmabahçe Palace in the Beşiktaş neighbourhood of Istanbul.The building housing it dated back to 1856. On 20 September 1937, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, suggested its conversion into a museum since the imperial family had been driven into exile with the coming of the Turkish Republic. It has now been moved into a new gallery on the edge of the Galataport where it is very close to the Istanbul Modern gallery, turning the area into an artistic hub for the city. The building chosen - Antrepo No 5 - was originally designed to serve the old port at Karaköy by the Turkish architect Sedad Hakkı Eldem. Vişnezade is a neighborhood in the municipality and district of Beşiktaş, Istanbul Province, Turkey. Its population is 7,959 as of 2023. ''Vişne'' translates to "Prunus cerasus, sour cherry" from Turkish and the neighborhood is named after İzzeti Mehmet Efendi (1629-1681), an Ottoman Empire, Ottoman statesman nicknamed ''Vişnezade'' who was known to cultivate sour cherry in the place of this neighborhood. Sedad Hakkı Eldem
Sedad Hakkı Eldem (31 August 1908 – 7 September 1988) was a Turkish architect known as a proponent of nationalized modern architecture in Turkey. Biography Sedad Hakkı Eldem was born in Istanbul in 1908. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Architecture. Between 1931 and 1932, he traveled to France, England, and Germany on a scholarship from the academy, exposing him to various architectural styles and movements. In 1932, he opened his own office and began teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he remained until his retirement in 1978. In 1934, he founded the National Architecture Seminar at the Academy, dedicated to the study and documentation of traditional Turkish houses. He argued that "these vernacular structures reflected modernist principles through the rationality of their floor plans and the clear structural logic of their timber-framed facades". Osman Hamdi Bey
Osman Hamdi Bey (30 December 1842 – 24 February 1910) was an Ottoman Turkish administrator, intellectual, art expert and also a prominent and pioneering painter. Emre Arolat (born 24 June 1963) is a Turkish language, Turkish architect. In 2004, he co-founded EAA-Emre Arolat Architecture with Gonca PaÅŸolar. Arolat is best known for the construction of Sancaklar Mosque. Early life Arolat was born in Ankara in 1963.
