Icelandic Basketball League System
The Icelandic basketball league system, or Icelandic basketball league pyramid, is a series of League system, interconnected competitions for basketball clubs in Iceland. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation, promotion and demotion system between competitions at different levels. Men There are currently four different competitions on the pyramid - the 1st tier Premier League (Iceland), Úrvalsdeild, the 2nd tier First Division Men (Icelandic basketball), Division I, the 3rd tier Division II, and the 4th tier Division III. The leagues are organized by the Icelandic Basketball Association. Anna María Sveinsdóttir
Anna María Sveinsdóttir (born 22 November 1969) is an Icelandic former basketball player and coach. She won twelve Icelandic championships and eleven Icelandic basketball cups, and is regarded as one of the best women's players in Icelandic basketball history. She was the first player to break the 5000 points barrier in Úrvalsdeild kvenna and finished her career as its all-time leading scorer with 5001 points in 324 games. The scoring record stood until 23 April 2013, when it was broken by Birna Valgarðsdóttir. In 2001 she was voted the Icelandic female basketball player of the century and as one of the twelve players on the team of the 20th century. Coaching career Anna María served as a player-coach for four seasons with Keflavík, accumulating a 56-20 record (73.7%) and two national championships. The 1994–1995 Úrvalsdeild kvenna was the 38th season of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna (basketball), Úrvalsdeild kvenna, then known as 1. deild kvenna, the top tier women's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on 1 October 1994 and ended on 2 April 1995. Breiðablik women's basketball, Breiðablik won its first title by defeating Keflavík women's basketball, Keflavík 3–0 in the Finals. Olga Færseth
Andrea Olga Færseth (born 6 October 1975) is an Icelandic former multi-sport athlete. She was a member of the Icelandic national teams in both football and basketball. In 1994, Olga won the national championship and national cup in both football and basketball. Football Club career Olga started her senior career with Keflavík in 1991 but moved to Breiðablik in 1992 where she became Icelandic champion in 1992 and 1994. In 1995 she joined KR where she became Icelandic champion three years in a row (1997-1999). She is the leading scorer in the Icelandic women's top division, scoring 269 goals in 217 games. Linda Stefánsdóttir (born 28 June 1972) is an Icelandic former basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national basketball team. She played 14 seasons in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, winning the Icelandic championship and the Icelandic Basketball Cup in 1999 and 2002. In 2001 she was named one of the twelve players of the Icelandic basketball team of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Federation. Björg Hafsteinsdóttir (born 22 October 1969) is an Icelandic former basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national basketball team. She played 12 seasons in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, winning the Icelandic championship seven times and the Icelandic Basketball Cup eight times. In 2001 she was named one of the twelve players of the Icelandic basketball team of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Federation. She was a six time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team selection and was named the league's Player of the Year in 1990. She spent the vast majority of her career with Keflavík, outside of a few months in the fall of 1992 when she played for KR.
