Édgar Valcárcel
Edgar Valcárcel (December 4, 1932 - March 10, 2010) was a Peruvian composer and pianist. A native of Puno, Valcárcel was the nephew of Teodoro Valcárcel. He studied composition at the National Conservatory of Music in Lima under ; further study followed with Donald Lybbert at Hunter College in New York. In Buenos Aires he worked with Alberto Ginastera; during his career he also studied in Paris, with Olivier Messiaen, and in Italy, with Riccardo Malipiero, Bruno Maderna, and Luigi Dallapiccola. At the Electronic Music Center he worked with Vladimir Ussachevsky; he later returned to Peru, teaching piano and harmony at the conservatory in Lima. Valcárcel received two Guggenheim Fellowships for composition, List of Guggenheim Fellowships awarded in 1965, in 1965 and again List of Guggenheim Fellowships awarded in 1967, in 1967. Serialism
In music, serialism is a method of composition using series of pitches, rhythms, dynamics, timbres or other musical elements. Serialism began primarily with Arnold Schoenberg's twelve-tone technique, though some of his contemporaries were also working to establish serialism as a form of post-tonal thinking. Twelve-tone technique orders the twelve notes of the chromatic scale, forming a row or series and providing a unifying basis for a composition's melody, harmony, structural progressions, and variations. Other types of serialism also work with sets, collections of objects, but not necessarily with fixed-order series, and extend the technique to other musical dimensions (often called " parameters"), such as duration, dynamics, and timbre. The idea of serialism is also applied in various ways in the visual arts, design, and architecture, and the musical concept has also been adapted in literature. Male (symbol: ♂) is the sex of an organism that produces the gamete (sex cell) known as sperm, which fuses with the larger female gamete, or ovum, in the process of fertilisation. A male organism cannot reproduce sexually without access to at least one ovum from a female, but some organisms can reproduce both sexually and asexually. Peruvian Classical Pianists
Peruvians (''/peruanas'') are the citizens of Peru. What is now Peru has been inhabited for several millennia by cultures such as the Caral before the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. Peruvian population decreased from an estimated 5–9 million in the 1520s to around 600,000 in 1620 mainly because of infectious diseases carried by the Spanish. Spaniards and Africans arrived in large numbers in 1532 under colonial rule, mixing widely with each other and with Native Peruvians.
