Édgar Ernesto GarcÃa (born October 4, 1996) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher for the Guelph Royals of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL). He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, Cincinnati Reds, and Minnesota Twins. Professional career Philadelphia Phillies GarcÃa was born in Sabana Grande de Palenque, Dominican Republic. He worked out as a shortstop for Phillies scouts initially in the Dominican Republic, but though his batting skills did not impress the scouts they liked his arm. He was signed as an international free agent as a pitcher by the Philadelphia Phillies on May 29, 2014, for $30,000. GarcÃa made his professional debut in 2014 with the Dominican Summer League Phillies, going 2–0 with a 2.10 ERA and 19 strikeouts in innings. In baseball, a save ( SV or S) is credited to a pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team under certain circumstances. A save can be earned by entering a game in which his team is leading by three or fewer runs and finishing the game by pitching at least one inning without losing the lead; entering the game with the tying run in the on-deck circle, at the plate or on the bases and finishing the game; or by pitching at least three innings in relief and finishing the game regardless of how many runs your team was winning by when entering the game. The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League ( or LIDOM) is a professional baseball Winter league baseball, winter league consisting of six teams spread across the Dominican Republic; it is the highest level of professional baseball played in the Dominican Republic. The league's players include many prospects that go on to play Major League Baseball in the United States while also signing many current MLB veterans. Estrellas Orientales (English: Eastern Stars), also known as Estrellas de Oriente, is a baseball team in the Dominican Winter League. Based in San Pedro de MacorÃs, the team has historically struggled, winning championships only in 1936, 1954, 1968 and 2019. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League (IL) and the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Clearwater Threshers are a Minor League Baseball team of the Florida State League and the Single-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
